Brad Scott - The Plan is Fine (Part 3)

And … breathe.

Way to show our players that we need to lift our standards Brad.

Fark off back to the AFL, I’m sick of hearing how disappointed and angry you are, and them you keep 4-5 players that have constantly let the team down stay in the side.

Wow, great post by Nocturnal to ride out that last thread.

It’s a great post - and this bit should be pinned to the top of the thread:

Brad has the ability to assist, but the only way he can do that is for him to go out on a limb. He can only doing in small ways, like to back a fight against city hall on suspensions, back in those who fight vs those who capitulate. To allow them the freedom to not play on the edge, but to run over it and support them in doing it. Conversely, the more he coddles Heppell, plays senior guys to not hurt their feelings and never fights for what’s right, the more he will keep perpetuating the past, and the more likely the board will grow tired fast and he will fail. He has to give the players the mental freedom to fight the past, something few other clubs have to struggle with. At the moment he isn’t doing that, he is being scared, safe, fearing failure and chasing false victories. If he is going to keep doing it, he might as well quit.

Essendon players negotiate the non negotiables and Brad Scott enables it

What a ■■■■ show after 2 years in the job, absolute fraud of the highest order so far.

Thought i would do a bit of a dive into centre bounce attendances. Because its ■■■■■ me off to no end this idea its great we have heaps of mids rotating through. No idea where this pisstake came from and why you wouldnt want your best in there majority of the time. So here is a breakdown of a random sample of a few teams and % centre bounce attendances. Pretty damning if you ask me that most good sides have 1 ruck and 3 mids spending 60%+ in there. Look at merrets first half to the last 6 odd weeks. Disgusting coaching by scott and a disgrace you dont have the best in there.

The best teams have there best pkayers in there as often as possible. We have semi decent players continually chopping and changing because we want 7 mids. Fk off

3 of our top ones are rucks.

Brad must have read this and got busy.

Main thing that disappoints me so far about Brad is that we know nothing more of the following players

Perkins- darker around with his positioning
Draper- no skill development
Hobbs- limited game time
Tsatas- limited game time
Cox- still no idea what he will be
Bryan- limited game time

And has continued to play the following

Heppell
Goldstein
Menzie
Shiel
Stringer

And has deprived us of an AA forward/ winger in Martin

Gresham is an abject failure and going after Ainsworth was concerning.

We have completely and utterly stagnated. We are no more clear on where we are heading than we were when we re-signed Worsfold.

Our forward 50 system remains deplorable, our midfield remains flakey. Our defensive unit remains adequate.

Same old same old. The past 7 years of this club just feels like exactly the same ■■■■.

But hey at least we locked away McGrath onto a monster 6 year deal. At least Redman is sticking with us for the long term. That will fix things.

The only actual positives are Durham and Caldwell. Everything else… Yeah there’s really nothing is there?

Interesting.

Stringer is getting way too many CBAs considering he’s seemingly lost a lot of his power and it disrupts out entire structure which needs to adjust at some point after the bounce

It made sense in 2021 when he was having a massive impact in there but we’re getting very little return for it now.

Should only be used as emergency option. He should be played forward permanently and we should be picking a proper center square mid with some size to play there.

Setterfield would help the balance of the side l imo but if you want to prioritize the development a young inside mid we’ve got a few of those hanging around withering on the vine too.

That, after 5 years of trying, the playing group finally worked out how to execute a high press, if only for about half the year, was a huge positive.

Stringer had the equal most clearances (8) with Marshall last week. Seven were centre clearances. He still had an impact.

Merrett’s leadership too. I think he’s gotten better in that part the last two years. I think there is a better balance in our key defensive stocks now that McKay is here. We still lack another option there though to replace Laverde.

Stringer getting so many CBAs has been one of the disappointing aspects of the year. He’s had a diminishing impact on clearances, throws the structure out the balance, as you say, and it potentially has had a negative impact on his forward craft.

I’d have much rathered someone like Setterfield there as a kind of anchor mid - strong over the ball and a good and willing tackler. It’s that sort of working class grunt we’ve missed particularly the last part of the season. The coaches obviously see it differently.

In time - hopefully from round 1 next season - Tsatas should be well in the CBA mix.

Centre clearances was one of the few areas of the game we won last week - (15-10). Seven of them were Jake.

We’re still sold on battleships, but the aircraft carrier has arrived.

He’s attending on average the same as the last two years. Down on his 2021 role. Last week was more in line with his 2021 numbers.
