Kudos to you. That’d been great trip.
No doubt the effects post trip if you kept riding consistently after would be noticeable
I’m more talking that if they went for 2wks post season to altitude training then took a break and were doing nothing much for month+ after before cranking up for preseason their fitness base would be gone.
But yes as you note body knows it can work harder, and obviously mentally know it
If they did and then didn’t keep the level up then it’s a waste of time and money …
My mate once slept ina oxygen tent for 6 months to prepare for a race lol
You sure it wasn’t for sexual powers
Agree, it would be pretty dumb to do a specialised training gig and then go on holiday before the pre season starts. Have a break now and then get ready to rev it up for next season. Being professionals they’ d know this anyway. You’d hope.
I hope they are smart enough to pay for Martin and his Perth trainer to go with them.
Good to see Brad is asking the boys to remove pickles and add bacon to their maccas order.
He clearly wants them to bulk.
Eleven (11) Collingwood preliminary finals since we last made one.
Do wonder what those Arizona type fitness camps might be like. I’ve often thought a G.I Joe type assault course camp that not only runs guys ragged, but instills a military grade “never surrender, feel no pain” type mentality would really move the dial with our players.
I think Collingwood did something along those lines previously and maybe still retain a link to their trainers. Tiges did too a good few years back? Could be mistaken.
It’s one thing getting fitter but quite another to become a never say die merchant and a ball of muscle to boot. Because that’s what gets you over the line and wins tight, hard fought games.
Club should be hiring hard case training folk, consultants from not only inside but outside AFL football. There’d be definitely a change in our fotunes
I thought it was for the high altitude effect. Collingwood players started it and I think a bomber or 2 a couple of years later. Pretty sure someone posted that there’s now a facility in Victoria that enables the same effect now and that’s why not many have been to the states lately. But then again this training trip might be something completely different.
The clubs aren’t allowed to. Bullshit soft cap rules. There would be a lot more of these specialty training a educational trips if the AFL wasn’t putting ridiculous restrictions on the clubs.
My point is more around why it’s news already prior to even departing. Just seems like an Essendon media release to show how committed the players are after the poor season.
I would just rather they get on with personally.
It’s the David Zaharakis thing. He did several times - US in the off season, from memory.
But he went to Boulder, Colorado I reckon.
Collingwood through to their 11th prelim since we last made one. Yes, 11th. And here Blitz is discussing the likes of Kaine Baldwin, Lewis Hayes, Jye Menzie and a want away cat B rookie who couldn’t get a touch in the twos. It’s so sad, it’s funny. What’s even sadder is that some supporters don’t realise how dire the situation actually is and how far away any change is.
Thank god the NFL is back.
Playing Devil’s advocate - Melbourne players rallied against attending a similar style camp after their first experience resulted in a concussion and injuries to players. Dees went in to win a flag with the same playing group.
And the Crows camp didnt have a great outcome.
nutcupping is not my cup of tea either
We are all happy to see 15 players committed. What about the rest? Why is it that we don’t do this every year? I’ve been hearing about successful clubs training in Arizona for years, why is it only now we feel we should do it?
Personally I’d prefer to watch a back catalogue of Essendon 100 point losses than Gridiron, but that’s just me.
I’d rather sit through all of our elimination final embarrassments than watch that utter bore fest
