There is always something to play for. dignity, respect, how much you value the club or yourself.
at no stage did i expect a win.
I did hope, that the club, the players the coach would remember back 2 ish years, where they rolled a richmond side with the now coach of GC, and he baked their players for losing to a bunch of spuds that he viewed this club as, and that would spark even just a modicum of self respect for the club to remember that absolute disrespect that was shown to them and the club itself, and at least come out and give them a scare, and not just roll over and continue to take said disrespect.
That’s half the problem, they don’t care if they get walked over, they don’t care if people think they are the laughing stock of the afl, only marginally less than north and WC, they have no personal pride in themselves as professional football players, coaches etc, let alone pride or respect for the club.
This game may not mean anything in relation to this season, but it definitely entrenched the afl world view of how soft, meek and insignificant this club is and what an easy pushover they are
The worst part? We havent beaten gold coast since he took over, lost to them twice last year and gave them their first win in melbourne for the year, that was when i knew there was no soul left in this place, players dont even have the self respect or desire to give it back to the flog
I started the sack Brad Scott bandwagon, but even I can concede that the team we fielded tonight was horrendous and 3 qtrs of those players won’t be on the list in 2027.
Absolutely I do but I still expect senior players to at least care and I still expect to see some structure. To lose 4 games by 90+ and still miss out at the very pointy end of the draft is very Essington
