Brad Scott - yeah, whatever (Part 4)

The Scott contract extension just keeps looking worse and worse, Carlton will be going into a mini rebuild mode which will set Voss up for failure (he will fail regardless) and no doubt will have been in Longmire’s ear, who would be perfect for us

We are a joke, but the club will stick with him - they will blame injuries without looking any deeper into the causes of our performances

Then he will get sacked after the season finishes next year

Is seriously underachieving with our supreme playing list. Hard to fathom really.

Agree, i was hopefull after 2016 as the players showed real growth through the season and finished the year better than they started. You could see signs of a system and players playing to it.

This year is essentially wasted, we half assed the debutants in many cases, no signs of game style experimentation or growth, game time wasted on players not part of the future.

Exactly!

The current bunch of spuds has no similarity to that previous bunch of spuds!

I’ve been supportive of the move to trade out experience and replace those guys with draftees, as I knew it meant we were always going to play more kids this year as a result.

Going early to extend his contract to end of 2027 was an unnecessary move at the time and whilst I’ve been fairly forgiving re our results this year given those recent list-changes + the weight of injuries we’ve had, I also think the pressure should really be on Scott to demonstrate substantial improvement with the side next year.

First priority is to improve our high performance/medical dept because we’ll go nowhere (with any coach) until that is rectified.

Assuming a more ‘typical’ injury run next year, with an easier draw, plus more top end talent coming in via the draft, if Scott can’t get the team to take meaningful steps forward then he needs to get the boot.

So I guess ultimately I’m still in ‘let’s wait and see’ territory - I know many others disagree and that’s fine - but there shouldn’t be any excuses for a lack of progress next season.

Scott has and will be shuffling deck chairs on the titanic.

We need some better chairs

Assuming the boat has been repaired and isn’t still sinking.

This club should be carefully monitoring the performance of the side and in particular, Scott next year, with one eye on any potential coaches that could take over the reins. I believe we are in for a disatrous 2026 in terms of injuries received this year but the game plan (which we don’t seem to have), effort, structure, and selection integrity must be looked at closely. Might appear obvious but for 3 years, we have gone backwards.

Stop flattering him with the “Midtable” nickname :joy:

No denying our system has been poor over the years but is there any chance of our blokes showing some initiative or trying to better themselves in other ways?
I just remember hearing from Boak a few years back and he said when he first got to Port it was a shambles, player development was poor, training regimes were ordinary etc and he seriously thought about heading home but then he decided that he would try to drive the club standards if the club couldn’t. He dedicated himself to training way above what the football club offered and initially trained alone for hours on end each day after he left the club and then he started taking other players under his wing to the point that several players were now training with him outside of the club.
I’m not saying they are all slackers but I’d be interested to know how many at our club do way over and above what the club offers

It’s the “stretch goal” in his KPI’s.

The pressure on this bloke at the end of next year will be enormous. I think everybody will give an element of a pass for some of this year. But if he keeps kicking own goals with selection and praising fan attendance whilst we get smashed every week the pitch folks will be out.

I think he needs a demonstrable growth in the teams performance for 2026, not necessarily ladder, but at least defensively so we don’t get blown away at all or something of that ilk. Or he is a dead man walking in 27, without meteoric Adelaide style rise, he’s gone.

Wont be as much pressure on him if the club had some balls and said publicly we’re turning the list over/rebuilding instead of “Were aiming for finals”. Cant have supporters and membership numbers dropping off though
