Especially since we’re 2 weeks into a 2 year extension!
We never should have have appointed him as coach.
The only thing he has changed is his appearance in that he looks like John Worsfold.
#Sackknights
I said half of the list needs paying out.
You seemed to extrapolate that as the top half… and the bottom
I feel like Wim blames me for losses.
Nah, that’s too far.
He was good the first year.
Real good.
He was okay the second year, but the limitations were really, really friggin’ apparent.
How’s waiting’ til June looking now though?
Is it ten days later yet?
Hey how good was that 15-20 minutes or so we played in round 1 though, that was good wasn’t it…
We need to start again. Not even joking.
Thinking that Parish and McGrath are going to turn into the gun midfielders we’ve been missing for almost 20 years is the height of ■■■■■■■ delusion. A couple of midgets who are useless overhead, bullied out of the contest often and lets be totally honest here, the evidence is mounting that neither of them can kick to anywhere near the required standard.
Not sure what it is that Hurley does well anymore but what I am sure of is that defending isn’t it.
Daniher needs to go play VFL for the rest of the year. His kicking is beyond shithouse and I reckon I’ve seen plankton with superior levels of concentration and awareness to him.
Zach Merrett wanted to be captain did he? good luck with that kid.
Someone needs to tell Heppel that he needs to move the ball quickly because he’s ■■■■■■■ slow as ■■■■.
Its a shame that Stringer is so obviously a confidence player because he is at the one club that will never in a million years be able to give him any.
Did the Long Walk start early this year? Because ■■■■ knows where Walla was hiding for the majority of the game.
Goddard had about 3 kicks for 3 direct turnovers and shots on goal in the first. Thanks for your efforts Brendon, we’ll always remember how well you pointed.
Mitch Brown was ■■■■■■■ awesome in comparison to his Freo game.
Begley had a chance to kick a long goal from outside 50 and instead chose to pinpoint a pass directly to the opposition, proving that we are getting better and better at Essingtoning young players as years go by.
Even still we should look at the positives.
Top 5 draft pick incoming!
(Shame Dodoro will miss the gun mid we need as usual)
Before I turn attention to the coaching, to be fair Worsfold and the assistants don’t go and tell our blokes to cough the ball up under no pressure, or to over possess with handball. You can tell early when we are switched on, and again we were caught napping and frankly should have been 5 or 6 goals down in the first quarter given how we were getting dominated in general play. Goddard takes an intercept mark, then for whatever reason off one step and not properly balanced kicks off his left foot, turnover 40m out dead in front, Dogs get their goal. I think I counted that we got picked off from the kick-outs 4 times midway through the 1st. Either the Dogs went and did their homework on our strategy or we just coughed it up. I think it was more the latter. The ball use was putrid all day, when we did have a chance to get some run and clean possession we butchered it.
Now to the coaching/team selection. I thought Begley was a tad unlucky to be dropped as he was far from our worst against Freo, however when Dea, a defender, was a late out, surely Hartley should have been the in? We replace a 3rd tall back with a mid-sized forward, which resulted in us having to station Myers in defence as well as Goddard. That was a stinking decision. Clearly Match Committee thought the Dogs lacked the height up forward and we could get away with just Hurls and Brown as the talls and then the remaining backs were all smallish, but Myers ain’t a defender and playing BJ loose down there, he has to impact every contest, either intercept the ball or kill the aerial duel with a spoil. He did neither. The Bont predictably had his way with us when he was stationed down forward and our defence collectively was diabolical In dealing with contests overhead. It took for Hooker to switch to the back half for us to actually look solid with the long ball coming in.
Midfield - Uncompetitive. Beaten by over 100 in uncontested ball. Merrett 13 touches. He usually gets that in a quarter. He is clearly not right after that hit in Round 1. We only had one player with over 25 touches (Zaharakis), the Dogs had 6. We had 43 tackles, the Dogs one more. So they smash us in possession AND out tackle us. That is workrate pure and simple. We don’t work hard enough, both when we do and don’t have the ball. And when we do have it, we give it back. 67 clangers. Bellchambers got schooled by a bloke who looks like Marty Gleeson on hunger strike.
Forwards deserve some out given how bad things are further afield. But once again we went for the old trick of playing a garden gnome at CHF and kicking it on top of his head. Green and Walla both playing the Alwyn Davey role as the 171cm marking forward to perfection. Most teams this year are keeping one forward deep the whole time, hence why we are seeing so many bags of 4+ goals to individual players. We seem to have ignored that. How many times to we blindly kick to nobody, or an outnumber situation? The Dogs were keeping men back the whole time and sometimes we’d be kicking to a 1-on-3. OK, so obviously we have more men behind the ball. Should mean we are harder to counter against? Not by the way the Dogs time and again waltzed through our F50 and were able to pick out short diagonals with ease.
Positives? Raz got a game under his belt. Looked sharp enough without finishing some of his nice work with goals. He will only be better for the run. I thought Stringer was more involved and more dangerous, but that hit to the eye clearly affected his influence in the 2nd half. Again should only get better. Daniher’s 2nd half was encouraging, started to take some marks and look like his old self again rather than the Space Jam version that seemed to be sapped of all his talent. But Joe, WHY WHY WHY did you handball when you’re no more than 10m out slight angle and we finally looked to have some momentum? Butchered it, Dogs go down the other end and score, goodnight nurse. Lots of soul-searching needed, and it is only Round 3. A loss to Port next week and it’s 1-3 and we are in a deep hole that we might find difficult to get out of.
You blamed me, personally, for the last friggin’ fifteen years!
Fair’s fair.
So, three games in, playing against an opponent who were desperate to beat us if they do nothing else all year, and soooooo many people here have given up on 2018. Well I’m not giving up that easy. Surely let’s give the side half a dozen games before we write them off; after all we are supposed to be Bombers fans!
You know when you get so stressed out that you finally break and just laugh? That’s the stage i’m at now. My wife and I were on our way home from work and she was going ape ■■■■ at the TV, whereas I was telling her off. Rewind 2 years and roles were reversed.
This club is broken, ■■■■■■, whatever you want to call it. The club has no direction on or off the field and doesn’t even take itself seriously. I was thinking of writing an angry letter to the club (did it once in 2014 and got a phone call) but now I’m like, “why bother? The club doesn’t care about the fans”.
X, Membership department etc are the greatest used car salesmen of all and we are the first time owners of a lemon. Every year from 2012-2016 we gave the club the support it needed to keep its head above water and we were promised once the air is clear the club will rise.
Well the air is clear and the club is lying down. Nowhere have we seen in the past 2 seasons an apology to the fans (who are owed one big time) or even a half decent excuse of why we are as poor as we are. It’s all “we have a plan, we need to stick to it” or battlecries like “don the sash”.
Well Essendon Football Club, the moment has come where the players and officials need to “don the sash”. There are probably a handful of supporters who are like me and are just like “meh, I got better things to do”. Never in 27 years of being a member would I actually choose going to a family function or working over going to the footy to support the team. But now, with the ■■■■ weak players and officials we have, why should I bother? What the club needs to be careful of is that the handful doesn’t become hundreds or thousands.
Not sure about all of you but once you move out you still reminisce and do things what you used to do with your dad or mum. For me, I go to the footy to catch up with my dad and 2 of my mates. Now, ■■■■ it, I just go past after work on a Friday and watch whatever rubbish fark Carlton game is on. If I wasn’t an AFL member, or if they ever got rid of their GF benefits, I probably wouldn’t even buy a membership, or at best just wait until March to buy one (in the hope I get it before ANZAC day)
This club is seriously at a crossroads. It can’t blame the saga anymore, it falls entirely on the head of X, Worsfold, Hep and the rest of the pea hearted “footballers” we pay to watch. How long can we let the club get away with selling us a lemon year after year while we sit back and watch the same mistakes being made year after year?
lol.
I agree that his best effort has been a wooden spoon (2016).
Shiiiit. could he be worse than Knights?
I’m going for a long walk. I think half this thread should join me
Well not literally join me, I might push you in front of a truck. Join, someone else? Unless they are also an Essendon supporter? That wouldn’t work either come to think of it
Go for your own farking walk is pretty much what I’m saying
Half a dozen games? Teams rarely come from 1-5 to make finals and do anything decent
You need to set your season up early and, sadly, we have
I’m off to see Charlie Pickering tonight, I just hope he is funnier than Mitch Brown attempting to play football, will be worth the $30 or whatever I paid
Your best post ever. And you’ve been posting for a long time, both here and on BT(4).
Kudos sir
Ummmmmmm…thanks?
You clearly haven’t read my posts in the fark Carlton thread though
That’s wishful thinking.
No um thanks. I was genuinely congratulating you. Ripper post and sums up how I’m feeling perfectly.
Farkcarlton my friend, farkcarlton indeed
■■■■ man, weve been broken since the saga.
I feel we are now the Victorian version of GWS without the recruits.
Reinvented by the AFL to appease the masses through the media.
What happened to my club?
Who is the most disjointed, crazy, loose unit in the 2’s?
That guy has to come in
