Can someone dig up the for drinking the coffee in the house on fire wearing an Essendon beanie pic I made last year? “this is fine”
You could hit shuffle on the “post match conference playlist” and odds are you’ll get this.
So Brown was on Redpath and Bags on Dickson. Harvey seemed happy with their performances. So don’t think they’ll be dropped next week.
Guessing Begley will though. Who was on Bont?
Everyone knows I dislike Woosha and want Hooker back, seems like momentum is building for others to finally see the bleeding obvious.
What occurs to me is the lack of appreciation for why losing Gleeson has been a major reason for our disgusting play this season. Gleeson is a solid, of not underrated, player but also an exceptional intercept marker. Last year he and Hurley were able to rotate the ‘interceptor’ role beautifully. If the opposition tried to drag one of them ‘out of zone’ then the other would cover and vice versa. We also had Goddard and Kelly to play that role if needed. Both are exceptional readers of the ball.
I am convinced, more than ever, that the intercept mark in our defensive zone is the biggest key to our gameplan. More than skills, more than ‘heart’ and more than spread. Our entire slingshot style is predicated on the intercept mark being taken and that player having the vision, and skills, to immediately pick an attacking target and deliver a precise kick to release the wave of running players. When the intercept marker is able to clear the mark and play on in under 12 seconds of game play, it resulted in a shot on goal for us nearly 70% of the time, which is impressive.
When we lost Gleeson it meant that we lost an intercept marker. The coaches clearly thought that Brown could step up and play the role but he is woefully inadequate for the task. Opposition have put a lot of planning into Hurley and are making him accountable to a forward and thus restricting his ability to play that intecept role. This means that we are not getting quick ball movement chains starting at HB. This has affected our leading patterns from our half forwards and our overlap running.
The moment Hooker was moved back, he provided 4 intercept marks in a row AND the immediate quick release, twice by foot and twice by hand… this made our ball movement look slick and we caught the dogs ‘mid zone’ and had easy shots on goal as a result.
Saad and McKenna are not intercept markers and nor is Baguley. Brown and Hurley are accountable for forwards. This is why we looked so much better when Hooker went back there and why he must go back there again.
I think it is a glaring oversight by our coaching panel to not address it and is one of the big reasons for our forward struggles this year.
We need another 4 Devon Smiths.
Hahaha
Was thinking earlier that every season it’s a waiting game to write the club off for going no where yet again.
P Corrigan looks like he’s been up for 48 hours straight.
They don’t ■■■■■■■ care enough. ■■■■ them. Bunch of deluded ■■■■■!!!
I wish they cared as much as us but if you think about it we’re the dumb ■■■■■ who rely on a bunch on primadonnas to make us happy. No more I’m done.
See you all tomorrow probably.
We need our mongrel back, to many nice blokes.
Myers is a great bloke, smart, articulate and a early pick, but guess what that doesnt mean he is upto AFL standard.
The boys love Hayden Skipworth, he is a great bloke and speaks well and been around a long time, again guess what maybe he has no idea what he is doing?
Sorry Hepp, but seriously mate start punching out some sprays, ohh thats right Gen XYZ or whatever they are dont handle that stuff, well ■■■■ them off then
JD, your in the VFL this week, nope not because you cannot kick straight or handball 2 meters its because you rucked or contested a mark and 20 seconds later you were still in the same spot watching the players around you. High five that with Alex Boyse this week
Night all
I agree. I can’t see any success with this group. You can’t polish a turd.
No need to panic, its only JLT1 and everybody knows JLT form has nothing to do with the season proper.
Good post JD. I’m with you on Hooker too, have Bernie for a while. I acknowledge his success last year as a forward but the backline needs reinforcing and we’re fortunate that we can plug in an AA standard player yet we refuse to do so. Today should make it a no brainer. The defence looked much more resilient and Hooker directing traffic like a traffic cop meant that we were much more organised behind the ball and gave our ball movement much needed impetus. Surely he plays back from here on?
Stringer as the hybrid forward behind Joe & Stewart is still plenty dangerous with Walla, Fantasia, Green etc up there too.
Woosha, I’m not with you on that yet. His inability to adjust and willingness to allow a spare man is frustrating but how he reacts from here on will determine that for mine. I do think his support staff leave a lot to be desired though.
Prior to the 4th quarter starting, Hurley actually went over to Parish and grabbed him by his jumper to have a word or two.
Thought that would be a bit of a spark. 5 minutes later, Parish kicked directly to a Doggies player while we were trying to get out of our back 50. So guessing it didn’t work too well.
Can almost write the script now
Will thump Port, then stink it up against Collingwood on ANZAC Day then come out and beat Melbourne & Hawthorn and then lose to Carlton
I couldn’t be bothered even listening to him. None of it is new and we’ve all heard it before.
I can’t even fathom us getting close to Port. Something is just not working within the team. We don’t look on, our previously reliable players have taken steps backwards.
Did they all believe the hype around them preseason?!
We lost to a lowly team.
Richmond are ninth.
Normality has returned to the universe.
does that mean we will win against sides we would normally lose against???
I tried for 5 minutes and gave up
