The evidence is pretty irrefutable at this point. I thought that bj would be able to cover Gleeson and in Rd 1 he did. But he’s been smelly the last few weeks.
Coaches have to do some very hard thinking and maybe eat some humble pie.
There is no question hooker plays well as a forward but our backline is just so so stinky right now that something simply had to be done
Port plays a big forward line too so we are going to need the extra height down there.
Listening to the presser, it sounds like we’ve instituted some brand new game plan and or systems that the players just haven’t got their heads around yet, and are struggling to implement.
The first thought in my head watching all 3 games this year has been “They look Lost, … confused”, so that makes a lot of sense to me.
After the dogs missed their 8th shot in the first 15 minutes of the game I wondered if we’d been told we weren’t playing finals or something. Heads were somewhere else entirely. It’s not just Joe (although it is consistently Joe). BJ and Hurls were terrible at times and McGrath made some shockers later on too. Weird stuff.
I absolutely buy that the players are lost & confused but I’m not really seeing any signs of a new gameplan. Usually with these things you see glimpses of what we’re trying to do but so far I’ve really struggled to see any structure other than what we’ve done in the past - kick to the same spots & hope JD/Hooker/Belly marks. Did the presser give any insights into what we are trying to do?
Didn’t watch the game but I didn’t think a result this bad was possible after watching the Dogs v WC the prior week (they were wooden spoon bad).
I think we have the biggest gap in the league between “on paper” ability and actual performance. Something - well, actually, lots of things - clearly aren’t right.
It was lack of attitude.
We need it back and we need it back quickly.
I don’t mean (but it was good) the time Carlisle picked up some Lions flog by the scruff of the neck and threw him down on the ground or when Walla took out Dangerfield.
It is the drive that guides all the players before we get out on the ground that no team is going to ■■■■ with us!
Since 2001 we haven’t had that and we need it back.
Comes from being in a team, making the team the number 1 priority. I would have no problem in the 1st minute Stringer smacking 1 of his former team mates. A show of that attitude would have lit up other players. A week worth it!
What I do have a problem with is when we play crap then after the siren have a laugh and giggle about it with the opposition.
Its a smack in the face to all our supporters and has most of us wondering wtf did we turn up for?
That was a disgraceful performance but if the game plan isn’t working after the whole pre season, intra club, jlt and 3 rounds what hope has it got.
I even thought when i went to the intra club training a few months back wtf are they supposed to be doing out there it looked like an absolute mess. Throw it out now before it’s too late like clarko with the hawks last year he abolished their new game plan and they made a late charge for finals but he left it a couple of rounds too late.
Even if using last years game plan with the addition of the 3 quality players picked up we would of improved a bit.
Literally every player at the club is worse this year than before, thanks woosha.
Gameplans don’t get you passing it straight to the opposition in front of their goal or kicking out on the full for them to have a shot… how many times did that happen? And from senior players. Dogs could have buried us very early if they could hit a barn door because of horrendous skill errors. I don’t know what is going on and I suspect no one does.
