Breaking stuff - the home reno thread

I could 3d print something like that for you but I need the nut dimensions.

Appreciate the offer!

I’ll go raid dad’s garage first to see what tools I might find first

What if you were to fit a hose clamp to the nut? Would that give you enough additional hand grip to tighten it enough?

Hose clamp might enable me to do the chisel and hammer approach

Deja Vu, ffs. (See earlier in this thread).

This time its the plumber . Disconnected the old hot water, left the cable as you see it for someone else to reconnect. The apartment is empty , so the landlord turned on the main switch when I arrived to get some lights working. Naturally, we then had a live tail resting in the Hws overflow tray.

Thank fark I tested it.

I’m getting too old for this ■■■■.

What plumber in this world hasn’t done their disconnect/reconnect. Hopeless.

when will that be?

When a new tech becomes mainstream?

You still want to be a bit of a early adopter. There is a period when your benefitting And the rest of the world hasn’t caught on.

Biggest issue I think, is how long people expect to be staying in their house. As people dont see the resale benefit, just compare to other similar homes in the area.

If electricity prices keep rising it might be sooner rather than later.

was hoping you would give me a year like 2030.

its been 5 years since my brief foray into the world of renewables.

but not much has changed in battery tech world, if you got the dollars its fine but there were risks of spontaneous combustion, extreme cost and not much efficiency.

From the ‘dumb questions thread…’

Anyone know any good draftsmen/women in the inner north?

Just need to draw a bathroom and ensuite.

Anyone offer any advice on how to replace a Colorbond fence post set into a retaining wall?
Post has rusted through and come loose in heavy winds.
Thanks :+1:

Help! Anyone know a good roof insulation removallist and re-installer? Northern Suburbs Melbourne.

Not the prettiest but probably the easiest is to cut the post at the base (losing the rusted imbedded stump) and have an angle bracket fastened into the post and concrete on both sides.

Otherwise you will need to disassemble the fence at that point and jack hammer out the concrete. Replace the post and repour the concrete.

something like this would do the trick. Yeah it’s designed for timber but it could work for your scenario:

Got to drill concrete one way or another.

Either a little bit (for some sort of stirrup) or a big bit for a new panel.

Probably rip down a couple of panels of fence too, but that’s only 10 minutes work.

You can buy offset surface plate post holders for Colorbond. Might be possible to remove the two panels , flush off the rusted bit and bolt the plate over the top. Whether you could reuse the existing post is debatable.

Wear (ear) protection

The way I normally do a job like this is try and do it the “quick” way, spend about 4 weeks on that then do it the “long” way and finish it in a morning.
