Can I just say - ■■■■ interior Painting.
What a ■■■■ of a thing to have to do.
I was doing so well until that last piece of masking tape.
We’re just at the beginning of adding a second story to our house, and I’ve already told bugman that we will paying for painters.
Ive got a little black mould in the ceiling. Believed ive stopped the leaks from the story above at home causing it.
Can anyone recommend a good mould treatment before painting over it?
What a great life decision
I don’t know a treatment but I have always used mould resistant paint in those prone areas.
Yeah its in a south facing laundry under a bathroom and also has an external wall.
Just very conducive too moisture.
Ill chat to the paint guy at the hardware store and see if whats best on the market
Dont really want a plasterer in and dont think damage is extensive enough. But i guess it comes back then theres more issues i can’t see
Lovely colour though.
Currently in major loud noise and no roof part of our reno (putting a second floor on), man the no roof thing makes the house cold!
Might be leaks or could just be condensation
it’s a bit counter intuitive but wall cavities need a certain amount of ventilation/airflow
Air has humidity (particularly if near a bathroom, and a lot of houses have fans that suck warm humid air straight into the roof space )
Surface of wall is different temp to air
= magic water
Good builders know this stuff, handymen often don’t.
(I would use mould resistant paint btw but that’s tackling the symptom, not the cause)
Staying there still? With dog/s and child/s ?
Brave…
EDIT: some of your family are probably slightly more used to not having any insulation on top than others
Yep, living there. None of the work will interrupt the kitchen, bathroom or bedrooms, just outside and the living room. They only asked us to not be there when they were craning on steel beams. Roof goes back on in a couple of weeks we hope!
Change in temp could def be it.
Theres an exhaust fan taking air and into the cavity in a toilet and then the moulds turning up in what would be the coldest part of the room in winter.(right near the window)
Curious to hear people’s experiences with double glazing windows. Our house is west facing and gets a lot of afternoon sun. Place is double story so not only do you get the heat rising into the top level where the beds are, but the main bedroom which faces west also heats up a fair bit.
Do people who have double glazed their windows find them worthwhile investment wise to reduce heat? Further, what’s the noise reduction like? We live on a semi main road and wouldn’t mind having double glazing to cut some of the noise out too.
Cheers esteemed blitz folk.
You might want to also consider window tinting if just for heat, may be a lot cheaper solution but it won’t reduce noise obviously.
Yeah it’s something which I’m considering for sure, a lot cheaper and might be enough to satiate me without having to stump up the cash for double glazing
Tinting sounds like a good option. I’ve installed a few double glazed windows in some apartments along Toorak Rd and the owners reckon there’s almost unnoticible difference. Particularly in regards to sound the windows may block more but the sound is still getting in via the walls, floor and ceiling.
Not sure about heat, but noise reduction is huge in my experience.
One thing to consider with replacing glass with double glazing is your window frames. Timber is a far better insulator than aluminium. No point in spending all that money if the heat escapes/come in through your frame. Although I think there are some new aluminium products that are better these days.
I don’t know what the pricing is, but I know people that got their double (triple?) glazed windows from Germany. It was cheaper to order them and have them shipped, and the quality is 1000% better.
