Bushfires

The fires around the leatherwood trees also threaten the Tasmanian honey industry.

Started by dry lightning wasn’t it.
Have they contained it do you know?

And the loss of so many bees and their hives.

Damn. That really sucks.

Did they get any rain down in tassie to help with the bushfires?

Some semi-interesting stuff coming out after the Cali fires.
Fire Dept chief refused to complete an after action report (has since been fired).
Apparently 1000 firefighters were sent home on the day the fires broke out?

I’m sure there’s alot more nuance to it all though.

A really good presentation of what drives fire behaviour.

Some big fires in South Carolina.

Bushfire in Montrose, not a big one yet, but also not under control even after several hours with 13 trucks in attendance and continual helicopters overhead. Windy day, and the whole area is dry as dust after no rain worth a damn for well over a month. About 5km from me. Not quite squeaky bum time, but I’ll be watching closely for the rest of the day…

I see my old hometown Kilsyth has a watch and act warning too. Never seen that before.

That’s for the “Montrose” fire (which I’d classify as Kilsyth personally).
Hopefully the wind pushes it towards the quarry rather than up the hill.

So far the alert trail looks like it’s heading southwest. Which is basically through bushland and a bunch of agistment properties, then the Liverpool Rd retarding basin/dog park, and then my place.

Wind has calmed down a lot in the past couple of hours though.

Watch and Act zone is definitely creeping towards Glasgow road.

That side of Mt Dandy was always a firebug favourite. They can sit back and watch all the way down the flatlands to the City.
Im not saying it was deliberately lit, just sayin.
This fire seems to be in a tight spot, but we are pretty lucky with the wind so far.

Worked in that area and spent many years riding through that forest and then lived over the other side for 25 years.
Truly hope they get it under control quickly for humans and wildlife.
Stay safe

Changed to under control, phew.
