That being said, installing an ev charger is a pain in the ■■■■ for me(live in strata accom) so an EV whilst not off the cards I’m hoping I’m not the one pushing for common area installs.

I was offered ~$1000 to replace a side mirror for a Honda Jazz, as they couldn’t buy the new relevant part only but had to get lots of related stuff that had not been broken.
They managed to find the relevant portion secondhand and that was much cheaper (end result indistinguishable from new).

If you only drive an EV on weekends then it’s not a viable purchase. EVER. The extra ten grand or so that you pay for it will never be recouped. Even if petrol prices tripled and you drove a V8 1970 petrol guzzler. In fact you might make a capital gain on the guzzler.
The video posted by smooth above made me realise that I will never own an electric car. I already have a car and motorbike that will last for many years. I don’t think there’s any way of making an $80,000 electric car work out cheaper than the ten bucks a week I spend on petrol. Also, my car goes “vrooom”
I have bicycles that suit my needs most days (I’m a real low carbon guy 
). By the time electric cars become affordable the incentives will be gone, the government will have resorted to a road tax to make up for the lack of petrol tax (sorry excise or whatever weasle word the pollies use) and I’ll be in an electric wheelchair

Well said. I’m in a similar cohort to you in that I am not reliant on my car to commute to work (either WFH or take PT into the office), drive only a handful of times a week and fill the car up roughly once a month if that. Only when the price of EVs becomes more reasonable and charging options are more readily available would I consider it. Petrol cars will still be around for years to come. If I do get a new car it will be a petrol one…
What if at some point the only cars you can buy are electric and you want to drive a new car?(and pay for the privilege)?
The only thing I’m saying is a lack of proper at home charging isn’t such a big deal if it runs off a standard power point if your a weekend driver.
The whole price thing will disappear. Either through inflation on all vehicles or a resolution in supply chains/input costs.
In fact it’s becoming harder and harder to get many cars new cars EV or not under 40 odd grand(the starting point for ”cheap” Chinese vehicles)
There will be cheap electric bikes and or something like a Fiat E500 which will be cheap.
The counter argument to fixing these EV issues is, do "they’ want everyone to own a EV car?
And / or will there be autonomous EV cars you can Hire when you need one. A bit like Uber I guess.
Not sure if this fits into the theme of this thread but I’ve recently sold my much loved Sante Fe and bought something a little newer.
Bloody hell, selling a car privately is a literal nightmare. Soooooo many ■■■■■■■■■ … sooo many scammers…. Soooo much bitcoin.
I feel like I deserve some kinda medal for navigating the process to a successful outcome.
On the flip side, buying the new car from a private seller was a dream.

thats why youre seeing a growing rise in carsales service, where they just give you a price they’ll pay and people accept it. probably less than private, maybe more than dealer.
New Prado coming in mid 2023 with Hybrid diesel/petrol variations.

I think car ownership is still strong for a lot of people.
I know I will still want to own one for the convenience and still prefer to have “already paid for it”
Even if it’s cheaper to hire I’d find it might affect my behaviour(mental accounting) when I want a car to run to after work Sport/trip to the beach /shops/weekend Away etc.
Also like the emotional attachment to my own car.
I am seriously thinking of a good quality e-bike as a second run about thing. Just a lot of fun.
Can add effort to make it like a normal bike ride or make it pretty much effortless for scooting about town fully loaded with shopping etc
If the Government made registrations on E-Motorbikes free I would probably get one straight away.
Takes up less car space in town. And we have lots of free motor bike spaces.
most people do a lot of their trips as the sole occupants in a vehicle.

Unfortunately they do the opposite of this. If you have an electric bicycle that is over 250W (which is ■■■■ all) then you are supposed to register it AND have a motorcycle licence before you can use it on the road.
Yeah I know people regularly break this law but that’s the law as it currently stands and it’s really dumb.

Ie electric powered (treated as a motorbike) vs electric assisted (treated as a pushbike)
But as I type this I realise I don’t know what state you’re in, it’s a state road law.
Does it have the “caution: disc brakes!” brake light?
In Victoria:
A motorised bicycle is not classed as a bicycle if:
the motor is not an auxiliary source of power (a person must still be able to propel the bicycle via pedals without the motor operating).
the motor's power output exceeds 200 watts (whether or not the motor is operating) unless it is an EPAC.
These are considered to be motorcycles. The rider will be required to hold a motorcycle licence and have the vehicle registered before it can be used on the road network. Motorcycles cannot be ridden on footpaths or bicycle paths. Motorcycle riders must wear an approved motorcycle helmet.
The following examples are likely to be classed as motorcycles and not bicycles:
An EPAC that has been modified such as a modification to allow more than 250 watts to be produced or to exceed 25km/h assisted speed
