Died aged 84 (adjusted: 78).
Lewis beat him even though he died at age 78, because it rains more where Lewis is from
Starry Eyed Surprise was so good
Drugs are a hell of a drug
Timely…
They certainly are not.
Hadn’t seen this before now. Glad you posted it.
Always sad when a brave surf legend and lifeguard btw, loved by so many succumbs to the danger that lurks.
Vale Tamayo Perry.
Thanks for posting these. I hadn’t realised that Kinky had died.
He was quite the interesting character and I enjoyed his books more than his music although I acknowledge his finely tuned sense of satire in his songwriting.
This one hurts a bit.
“Ride 'em Jewboy” makes me sad.
I’ve only read (and loved) “Scuse me while I whip this out”. None of his crime stuff.
I have it in my mind that Kinky was responsible for:
“Don’t wait up for the shrimp boats, Mama,
I’m comin’ home with the crabs”.
If he wasn’t, he should have been.
Rear Admiral Pete “VIPER” Pettigrew has passed on.
VIPER is most popularly known for serving as a technical adviser on the movie TOPGUN, he can also be seen in a few other scenes like at the bar as CHARLIE’s Friend.
But his legendary leadership goes way beyond this film.
VIPER had 2 combat tours with around 325 combat missions in Vietnam flying the F-4 Phantom II, he attended TOPGUN right after returning from his first tour.
With that behind him, he was assigned to the USS Kittyhawk again flying the F-4 Phantom II.
On May 6, 1972, Viper and his wingman, engaged 4 North Vietnamese MiG-21 fighters.
90 seconds later, VIPER shoots down a MiG-21 and his wingman claimed another just as the other 2 MiGs ran for the deck to make a get away.
I loved her in Nashville.
And also in McCabe and Mrs Miller (L Cohen soundtrack).
Mary Martin ~
Not sure if “Celebrity” truly describes her but many who were familiar with (and insired by) the music of the sixties will remember her fondly.
She recognised talent and always put the artist first.

I remember her for the Robert Altman film Three Women. It’s an amazing film, totally unlike any other Altman film, and she was amazing in it. She won Best Actress at Cannes for her performance. She also had a small but very funny part in Annie Hall.
And Dr. Ruth as well.
Busy week for the grim reaper.
Never has Olive Oil been so sympathetically portrayed as by Duvall.
Her rendition of “But He’s Large” in particular was imbued with a delicate poignancy.
