Just exuded class in a way that you don’t see anymore
Just read about it, and searched this thread in case I missed it, but Shel Talmy died about a month ago. The guy produced Friday On My Mind, so maybe I’m not searching the thread properly?! I listened to an interview with him just a bit earlier in the year.
Very funny, very talented and very grumpy old bastard Clive Robertson has signed off.
Clive Robertson reading the news in the late evening was great TV. His ability to communicate with a look straight at the camera was a delight, very funny man.
I remember one night there was a news clip, maybe from Italy, where a female ■■■■ actress had been elected to parliament, and she was walking somewhere with a pretty gauzy outfit on, showing a lot of flesh. He kept having them show it on repeat. He was an old perve.
Was that Cicciolina?
Think so. I was do disgusted that I had to record it, and watch it again…
I heard he was an awful man, but I loved his late night current affairs show.
It was so…calming.
Also called Mrs Wim out on air for using the word ‘earnt’ in a story, and rightly so.
That was Ilona Staller, aka la cicciolina. She campaigned for Parliament being driven around on the back of a truck giving what became known as the Cicciolina Salute, which consisted of pulling down the top of her dress to display one or both of her busty substances. She got elected, but proved to be pretty hopeless and only lasted one term.
Busty Substances…an old Not Only But Also fan? Bit of old time Pete and Dud.
Absolutely.
I presume Sir Arthur Streeb-Greebling was one of your adversaries at the Bar.
On October 8, 1971, Pete and Dud were doing their Behind the Fridge tour, and put on a show at Wilson Hall at Melbourne Uni. Seats were removed and the queue went from Wilson Hall to the Beaurepaire Cenre and turned left. All for $1.
Must have been 4-5,000 uni students there.
Racist. He suggested that it was not a good idea to take in the Dinkas from Sudan, too tall to fit in.
The darling of the Melbourne Catholic Archdiocese, brought former DLP voters into the Liberal fold.
No RIP from me.
There is from me. I didn’t like his politics, but what Albanese said about him is 100% correct.
Wasn’t a fan of his work and a god botherer too so that’s another black mark for me
He was deeply religious but he was not a twit. He was highly intelligent and completely honest. As I said, I didn’t agree with his politics, or his religion for that matter, but he argued his point honestly and logically.
He’s partly responsible for the poor showing of the Liberal Party in Victoria. For a long time he held sway in preselections. Although he was cleared of misusing public funds in Branch stacking, the dirty work was done from his office.
He lost most of his power in the Party after that and had the ignominy of losing preselection as the sitting member.
Albanese reinforcing that Australian parliament is a footy match is everything that’s wrong with the country
