Very sad, The Sweet were fundamental to my music journey. DB was the first album I owned followed by Sweet Singles.

With such great lyrics as:
Hiawatha didn’t mind too much
Bout mini ha ha’s tender touch
Til she took him to the silver stream
Then she whispered words like he never heard
That him all shudder inside when she said
Wig wam bam gunna make you my man
Wam bam bam gunna get you if I can…

I can remember going to see one of the Sweet bands (there was at least 2 or 3 after the initial group broke up) at a gig in some dive in Freo, early 90s. I think Andy Scott was fronting them, the rest were imports. Lots of fun.

I sold merch for them whenever they toured through Perth. Andy tells of hair raising tales of life on the road (and just about everywhere else…) in the 70s. Access to excess doesn’t begin to describe it.

Sing it for us?

Bonnie Pointer, one of the fabulous Pointer Sisters, has gone to that great gig in the sky. RIP.

So there is only one left?

Ruth is the only original member left.

If you have heard of British rock band UFO, guitarist Paul ‘Tonka’ Chapman died today. He had massive shoes to fill when he replaced Michael Schenker in 1978 and did an admirable job. He appeared on three albums in the early to mid 80s: No place to run; The wild, the willing and the innocent; and Mechanix. Died at the young age of 66

Only ever had one UFO album. That was Force It, in about the mid seventies I think. Micheal Schenker playing then. Didn’t sound anything like that clip from memory.

They changed a little as the 80s emerged. Went for the big time in the states. But Schenker leaving totally screwed them. He was a force of nature. Force it is a great album

UFO’s Strangers In The Night" is one of the all time great live albums.

Absolutely agree with you there. That’s just before Schenker walked out. But he’s on fire on that album.

Actor Mel Winkler has died at the age of 78

He was in Doc Hollywood and ST Voyager as one of the 37’s. I never played Crash Bandicoot but he was a voice in there as well.

He was a huge Heroin user. Not many heroin users live past 60.

He was using with Bon Scott the week leading up to Bon’s death in 1980.

Yes, he and Pete Way did a lot of partying with Bon in his last few months. UFO and AC/DC had quite a close relationship. But he has been off the gear for a long time. His wife died unexpectedly last year and he died on his birthday. There may be something in that.
