Celebrity Deaths 2022

This one makes me a little sad. As much because it conjures memories of my Grandma. Rural property, central Vic , she only had a couple of records and The Seekers were regularly played as background to some of my childhood. (That is, when I didn’t have the Cricket on!! ). I should contact my Auntie and see what became of those records.

Time marches and I can’t halt it, let alone wind it back. It’s all so bittersweet. That’s the interest we pay on our emotional investments.

Valē , Judith. Go well, wherever you are.

Seekers had a touch of the Peter Paul and Mary sound early on.

Only bloke at the club who could give Jackets a run for his money.

Well Mr Rotten, Judith Durham was a star when she sang jazz and blues, as she did early on in her career. Not sure that the Seekers had much soul and their folksy music was canned rubbish. No doubt Ms Durham made the other three spuds look good.

I went looking for this songbook online but had no luck.
But thank you for bringing up a long forgotten and joyful memory.

I especially remember I got Eaten By A Boa Constrictor and My Dad’s Smellier Than Your Dad. True musical classics.

I need that book.

Edit: I have vague memories of choosing a duet for my song. Because I was a desperate overachieving little swot, even then (until puberty).

I remember her singing in jazz clubs around Melbourne before joining the Seekers. I also once hired Frank Traynor for a gig in Prahran many many years ago.

Crikey… I remember that. Teachers would hand out the books and the music would play piped over the school PA system.

It was an ABC program for schools from memory, wasn’t it? Vaguely recall the old ABC logo being on the front of the books. We had it until grade 2 or so. I seem to remember Puff The Magic Dragon being one of the songs… Now I’m thinking about it, so was Ob-la-di, ob-la-da (us kids used to snigger about the lyric “life goes on…bra”…)

Yep ABC radio. And the teachers used to leave us to it and all go for a cup of tea in the staffroom - at least I think it was tea they were drinking.
