To show my ignorance…I had no idea who he was until I just looked him up.
And this is the point I’ve been trying to make…I do not feel that I have been lazy or ignorant in not knowing who he is…I’ve just never needed to know that info.
Reading about him now, I can see that he is clearly an important person who has done important things…but until the last few minutes, I’d never heard of him.

Yep - I’d expect at best most people to go “ohh, isn’t it that institute”; and not many to really know who he is.
But even the most recognised scientist is still a very, very niche thing.

About 30 years ago, a mate of mine had moved into the city to work, and found it difficult to get to his regular dentist near Moorabbin Junction (cnr South and Nepean). So he went to Doc Aylett for a checkup. Wanted to repair every tooth just about - quoted $5k.
Went to his original molar merchant - oh yeah…filling here, nothing else needed - $200 thanks.
