Celebrity Deaths 2023

I think Friends was a bit more of a “time and place” thing. I honestly don’t think it has aged that well. Regardless, RIP.

I have friends that pretty much just watch the whole series on loop.

I’m sorry he’s dead, but I have always thought that Friends was the wettest, least funny sitcom ever made.

Did the song upset you? Suicide is painless…

And that’s Chandlers humour right there.

I found it so depressing. I’ve never been able to watch an episode.

I’m early 30s now and remember it being on at home every night around dinner time, such an incredible show, every now and again I see repeats and it’s held up. Perfect sit com imo

I’ve always found “Friends” nigh on unwatchable. It never offered me anything. But that’s by the by. Hundreds of millions clearly loved it.

Perry , from the bits and pieces i’ve picked up over the years , seemed a troubled soul. Very sad that he’s gone, way too young. RIP. Condolences to all.

RIP to him.

I never much cared for Friends in the first place, but for me it will always be tied to the town/village of Vang Vieng in Laos.

In the bus on our way there in 2009 I’d read how Vang Vieng was full of “happy” restaurants/bars fall of glassy-eyed tourists watching old episodes of Friends on endless repeat. Well, that’s gotta be an exaggeration I thought to myself.

Au contraire… that’s exactly what it was. Streets and alleys lined with places selling happy pizzas and happy shakes (I don’t need to spell it out, do I?) all of them with TV screens showing farking Friends to crispy-skinned Aussie yobbos and Pommy lager-louts.

It was the most vulgar example of a place having sold its soul to the tourist dollar.

Spectacular scenery (a river running alongside sheer karst cliff-faces) being dragged down by stoned pissheads jumping from tarzan ropes, floating downstream in tractor tyres, or yelling and screaming in the myriad thumping bars dotted along the riverbank.

Supposedly the Laotian government has s
reigned it all in now. The riverbars have been closed down, the tarzan ropes are gone, and no more happy bars with Friends.

I hope so… Vang Vieng deserves more because its scenery really is quite something special.

Yes, regardless of whether you liked his tv show or not, a man lost his life, far too soon.
RIP Mattthew.

Have never watched an episode of Friends and don’t consider my life any poorer for it (have never watched Seinfeld either). My taste went to Married With Children.

RIP Matthew Perry, condolences to his family, he lived a life.

Out of interest, which one of you blokes is older? :grinning:

Albert

Matthew Perry was probably just finishing Friends when he had a fairly minor story arc in The West Wing, but it showed a different side of his acting ability with perhaps better writing.
And he brought down a Vice President.
