One last word on Kissinger.
Denny Laine, co-founder of The Moody Blues and long-time member of Wings, has taken his final bow at the age of 79.
remember him on the “band on the run” cover and venus and mars albums, very gifted muso
I remember him from a little earlier. For me, his finest moment was on the debut Moody Blues single, ‘Go Now’, on which h e sang lead vocals. It was a lush production with strings, an early version of a power ballad, but without being at all overblown, and his voice was perfect for the song.
I don’t know a lot about what Laine did in between the Moody Blues and joining MacCartney but for a while he did lead vocals for the short lived Ginger Baker’s Air Force, formed after the break up of Blindfaith.
I thought “Man of Constant Sorrow” was the Soggy Bottom Boys?
He was in two bands of little renown, one similar to ELO called “Electric String Band” and the other called “Balls” which broke up in '71 just before he joined Wings.
Actually the song is pretty old and has been covered by a lot of a people.
Thanks for the info, it helps explain why he jumped into Wings.
I think he also did some solo stuff in between as well. But yeah, he wasn’t getting a lot of success. He actually enjoyed not being front and centre in Wings. I think he didn’t have a lot of time for Linda as a musician though.
Not a celebrity as such but gee this is very sad. That’s a heck of a list of achievements. National Champion for his age group in the 100, 200 & 400.
You wonder how he passed away at just 14. Shocking.
I’d give the post a like, but I don’t like it at all
Yeah terribly sad. All loss of life is but it certainly hits harder for me when it’s someone so young and someone who was evidently so gifted in his field.
Reading up a bit about him it seems as though he’s a St Albans lad. Came to Australia about 9 years ago from Pakistan.
A good actor in his day, but a seemingly questionable human being.
He was also lead actor in Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon and The Driver as well as many others. He had a baby face and looked younger than he was. His daughter Tatum married tennis player John McEnroe.
“Had” being the operative word. For the last 20 years he had an immovable face… stretched tighter than Nicole Kidman’s. Seemed to be forever popping up in bit parts on the US shows that Mrs B watches (generally the father of one of the main characters).
First version I heard was on Bob Dylan’s very first album, which was released in 1960 or 1961. It’s a traditional song; nobody knows who wrote it but a lot of people have sung it.
They did it for the movie, but as Shelton said, it is an old, old song.
Yeah it was first published in 1913 by D!ck Burnett who was a fiddler from Kentucky but nobody knows how old it is.
