Yes the president is. However with Kissinger, he was the driver of most foreign policy and with this being known, he is blamed.
Woosh
Did I miss something
Laos says good ■■■■■■■ riddance.
US bombers based in Thailand didn’t want to land with any remaining bomb(e)s, so would rain that cluster munitions onto Laos on the way back. Who they were not at war with.
From 1964 to 1973, the U.S. dropped more than 2.5M tons of ordnance on Laos during 580,000 bombing sorties – equal to a planeload of bombs every eight minutes, 24 hours a day, for nine years – making Laos the most heavily bombed country per capita in history.
More than half a century later, people are STILL being killed and maimed by the ~30% that didn’t explode when they landed.
Soul/sole
Not exactly unexpected, but still too soon.
And thematically 25 days too soon.
There are still bomb disposal experts from around the world employed 50 years on in Cambodia and Laos.
Shane was born on Christmas Day as well. As you said, sad but inevitable.
When I finally caved and bought a CD player in the early 90s, my first CD was by The Pogues.
Rum or Grace?
RIP Shane. I’m glad he’s in the camp of “got to see them play live” artists for me. He even did ok that night!
RIP Shane.
One of my past bosses was an Irish woman who had vague connections to him back home. Not really much of a secret, but he was clearly one of the loosest individuals known to mankind. Scientists should really study his body to work out how he managed to live past 60 while putting it through a lifetime of absolute punishment.
My introduction to the Pogues was in the late 80s when a mate and I house sat at a colleagues place in Niddrie. He had a few Pogues records. I was then fortunate enough to see them live at Wembley in October 1990. RIP
No one in history can ever beat the Pogues’ rendition of Dirty Old Town. Smashed many a pub with that.
RIP Shane you madman.
RIP Shane. Beautiful music and a wonderful gift he shared.
War criminal, arse hole and scumbag sums him up for me. His death is something l will celebrate, not mourn.
