Champions League 2024/25

Didn’t see a UCL thread for this season so thought I’d start one up. First lot of group games have commenced this morning in the new format of the competition (not a massive fan of it). Liverpool made amends for the disappointing loss to Forest at home in the league with a comfortable 3-1 win at the San Siro against AC Milan. Despite conceding early, goals from Konate, VVD and Szoboszlai secured the 3 points, and it could’ve been more with Salah hitting the woodwork twice. Gravenberch continues his strong start to the season with a MOTM performance at the base of the midfield.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich win 9-2 against Dinamo Zagreb, Villa return to the competition with a comprehensive 3-0 away win at Young Boys, Real Madrid 3-1 v Stuttgart, Juve 3-1 v PSV Eindhoven.

scoring 9 in a champions league just shows what a mockery this comp has become

there is only about 3, max 4 teams who can win

the rest are making up the numbers

The new format means more teams in the group stages, so obviously you’ll have some Europa standard clubs in there now.

For anyone not across the new format, see below:

Milan have started poorly in the league too which is never a bad thing

Arsenal held to 0-0 in Bergamo with Atalanta missing a pen in the second half
Monaco knock off Barca 2-1 with Barca down to 10 men in the 10th minute

Champions League on a friday morning? Game is absolutely gone

Atalanta are going to cause a number of big teams grief this UCL season.

Their style of man to man marking serves them very well

Liverpool 2 - 0 Bologna. Two wins from 2 against Italian opposition. Goals from Mac Alister and Salah (absolute banger!) seal a relatively comfortable night at Anfield. Gravenberch with another MOTM performance. Missing out of Zubimendi has seen him really grab the opportunity with both hands.

Also, Villa beat Bayern Munich 1-0. Unai Emery doing wonders with that squad!

Dortmund run riot over Celtic

It’s been a crazy game week in the CL

From 0-2 down to scoring 5 in the 2nd half. THIS IS REAL MADRID!

Some weird results today.
City are I. A bit of a rut but didn’t have them being 4-1 down against Sporting

Liverpool running riot over Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen at Anfield. A drab 1st half has led to an explosion from the Reds after HT, 4-0 the score, Luis Diaz brings up a superb hat-trick in 2nd half injury time. Gakpo the other scorer, continuing his rich vein of form.

Listened to the game on the radio. Can’t wait to see the replay of the first of Diaz’s 3 goals. Sounded very special.

Weird flex 2-weeks later. Pity you didn’t take the Clasico score and shove that in my face
