Changes for Bullflogs

Agree

Martin did not cause Redders to stand still between 2 contests and not even consider impacting either one

This happened multiple times on friday

Will still destroy us Anzac Day bookmark it

Rozee is to quick, but Caldwell could go to the Bont has before and curtailed him.

Even if he goes to Lobban that’s another huge impact player

Has signed the big money now

Brad should be pulling him aside but won’t

I agree on Rozee being too quick, my point was they did actually try the move

If they wait until the 3rd qtr again with bont it wont matter either

I think Hodge’s point was to stay behind him to block his run out of the centre.

Agreed.

Caldwell can keep up with Bont, he is quick but not lightning.

Be a great challenge for him, but he has done it before.

I thought Rozee was less damaging once we made the move, but the damage was done.

And by then if we have one player being solely accountable to an opposition player who is solely focussed on the ball, then at stoppages we end up being effectively a man down.

It’s a tricky balancing act these days.

The issue wasn’t lack of tagging, it was more lack of effectiveness from Parish and others.

If our “man down” prevents their best player waltzing out of the middle 25 times then its even, they are also a man down

Its only when he is poorly positioned and fails to stop his oppo that we are a man down

But it won’t prevent it, Rozee is too good for that.

The best way to stop a player like Rozee is to make him worry about the opposition getting the ball. He had no such concerns, which is the big problem.

Tagging is putting a band aid over a gun shot wound.

Yeap impact elite players change games, sacrifice a man to curtail a loss in a game already before opening bounce gives us a chance

I completely disagree.

It is a tactic of the past and is a concession to the opposition.

Sounds good in theory but doesn’t actually address the issue, and may actually make it worse.

Lets say i accept that as a fact, why was Parish being mugged at every stoppage? He was not given 1mm of space for the night including late in the game when they had no real reason to bother

Not once did Rozee have to contend with the same level of attention

He got bumped a bit before the ball was put in play then they let him do as he pleased

You say this but every other team still plays a stopper when required

So its a tactic of the past for EFC and no one else

Which was a collective effort. A team based strategy that worked.

A much better way to curtail the opposition than a single player doing a tagging role

Both teams heading into this game with a 2-2 record.

I get the lack of enthusiasm for this game considering our performance against Port and also a very underwhelming record against the WB in recent years … but let’s not make our opposition sound like Brisbane 2001-03.

They’ve beaten Gold Coast (Ballarat) & West Coast (Marvel). Made to look second rate against Melbourne (much like we were against PA) & apart from a 90 second period in the second quarter didn’t lead at any stage against Geelong at a neutral venue.

Same attitude heading into the Saints game and we know how that turned out.

Teams tag Merrett and did last week on Parish.

Well it sure wasnt Rozee or JHF ever hanging off Parish so it was collectively the other mid, may have been rotations but was pretty clearly the role of the 3rd mid

I don’t see it as tagging. They just have players (multiple) that are part of a team based strategy to curtail an opposition player.

Very, very rarely is a single player sent to do a tagging job on a single opposition player.

Sam Mitchell has spoken openly about Finn McGuiness and moving away from this role.
