Changes V Freo

In: Hurley, Langford
Out: Hartley, Green
If we are serious about playing finals, and maybe actually winning a final, then Watson (on form) does not play.

Agree. The 3 smalls, 3 talls caused havoc for a while. Now we have an injured Green and Fanta, and Colyer out of form. It’s really changed things.

We’ve looked good with 3 quick small forwards all year and we’re going to go into a game with only 1, that’s a fairly big deviation from a structure that’s worked all year. Even if Colyer’s not a real small forward he’s a lot closer than Lav.

Bombers fear the worst on Green injury . Giulio Di Giorgio August 20, 2017 2:18 PM

ESSENDON fears the worst for Josh Green after the small forward suffered a left foot injury in Saturday night’s 33-point win over Gold Coast.

The 24-year-old pulled up sore in the forward pocket as he ran and turned to take possession of a bouncing ball midway through the final quarter.

Green limped straight into the rooms and was on crutches after the game with his foot protected by a moon boot.

The former Brisbane Lion fractured his right foot in January last year – which forced him out for 10 weeks – and missed six games in 2015 with a stress fracture in his foot.

Bombers coach John Worsfold said the initial prognosis was not positive, with more to be known following scans on Monday.

“That looks like it’s serious,” Worsfold told Triple M on Sunday.

"He fractured a bone in his foot up in Brisbane a few years ago and had that pinned, and there’s a possibility this is the same thing as the other foot.

“We’ll get that confirmed tomorrow but it’s not looking that great at this stage for him.”

Green, who has played 17 games for Essendon since joining the club as a delisted free agent at the end of last year, will join fellow small forward Orazio Fantasia (hamstring) on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Worsfold said in-form defender Michael Hurley (calf) was pushing to return for next Sunday’s clash with Fremantle, although it was too early to predict his availability.

“He’s got to get through the hoops of showing that he’s fit to go,” the coach said.

“He’s pretty bullish about it but we’ll wait and see.”

Id say Hurls would be very unlikely to play unless it was just a corky. A genuine calf -even if minor - isnt usually a one week issue. Especially with the following Bye to make certain he’s ok for finals (if we make them) i think we’ll be conservative.

I agree.

Even if Hurley wants to play they won’t let him.

The question is whether or not it’s a legitimate injury at all and if we just labelled him as such so as not to be seen to be resting too many.

So why are people calling for Trav to come back?

People are asking for Langford to come in for Green. Ok…

and in the USA, people voted for Trump …

Makes you wonder.

Depends where the strain is. If it’s just to the epimysium it can be. But more likely it’s not a “genuine calf” as you say. Something like an FDL or FHL, they will always publicly label a calf. Given they said 1-2 straight off the bat, that’s what it will be.

Not good for Green.

IN: Watson
OUT: Green

Bird stays in.

Slight? Honestly, I don’t understand how anyone can suggest anyone else other than Colyer regardless of current form for Green assuming they have any understanding of what has made our worst line for the last 10 seasons our best.

With Raz and Green out Colyer must play if only to run around the forward line tackling all game

Because they understand why our forward line works

Out: Green, Kelly, Bird

Long for Green - may as well have another look at him

Hurley for Kelly - give him a rest before finals if Hurls is fit, Leave Anbo and Harts as the stoppers Hurls can be attacking

Watson for Bird - cos we just know it will happen. although I’d rather him come in for someone else, Maybe rest BJ?

A in form Trav yes but he is a liability currently

Colyer has never been this player. He doesn’t provide the tackling/forward pressure that so many others ahead of him do.

He is not a forward pocket. He’s a winger and currently not one of our first selected wingers.
