AFL coaching is full of 50/50 calls some which work out and others don’t.
scott knows we have a problem with injured skinny young talls and he’s given a possible fix with a player who has a CV similar to 2MP’s prior to getting traded to us.
He then has further LTIs to 2MP and draper so Weid gets more games than are warranted on form, but there are no ready to go physically mature replacements. the hype for voss on here is empty as his form is good VFL at best. weid with 70+ games & goals was a better chance to turn his form around and contribute ruck and forward.
the explanations (see @bobo post previously) are really clear as to why scott gave weideman an extended run. you can disagree and suggest you would do it differently, but the alternatives offered are never tested in real time, and the lame alternatives offered on here as ‘superior’ are always based on giving this season away and just playing kids that aren’t AFL standard.
that’s not how to be successful in elite sport. if it was fark carlton would have won '93 because we would have given the year away before it even started and played 3 more 18 year olds who weren’t ready just to pump some games into them.
Correct. I am less concerned about any other change as long as this guy goes out. Seriously questioning Scott if he keeps him in the team. There is zero reason to keep him in the team over Bryan.
I have no idea, what other explanation can justify his selection? It may not have been something that his manager demanded, rather something we offered with the confidence he would come good. Maybe we thought he would replicate what 2mp has.
Yeah it is definitely bemusing from outside, it seems only internally he is seen as a lock. BDB is asked about it continually now, there will have to be a point they give him a rest. Mental demons must be circling Weid every week.
I always find it interesting that when a team has a poor performance that you can single out certain players. That’s not a reality," Scott said of his under-fire forward.
“We’ve been really supportive of Sam and will continue to be. We’ll continue to do what’s best for our team and won’t be swayed or influenced by anyone else’s opinion other than our own.”
The Bombers will be out to bounce back from their disappointing loss to Geelong in what is a massive Friday night clash against the Western Bulldogs. Andrew Phillips is available after his suspension and will partner or replace Nick Bryan, who was the Bombers’ highest rated player in Geelong, with Sam Draper (hip) still sidelined. Jayden Laverde (ankle) must prove his fitness to be available, while Dylan Shiel (foot) will miss again. Sam Weideman (10 disposals, four marks) went goalless for a seventh straight game as pressure continues to build on his spot, although he was one of many below their best at GMHBA Stadium. Nik Cox had 12 disposals and kicked a goal against Geelong in the VFL before being rested for the second half, with a first AFL appearance since round seven last year getting closer. No.5 pick Elijah Tsatas starred with 31 disposals and 11 clearances against the Cats as he continues to push for a debut, although that appears unlikely to come this week. Kaine Baldwin (26 disposals, 12 marks) looms as Laverde’s likely replacement if the latter is ruled out. – Dejan Kalinic
Look what happened to Tom Boyd, the million dollar kid. Played one great game, then languished, drawing his $19,000 per week salary and playing in the VFL until he broke down and pulled the pin on his footy career. However it was not before he had caused a lot of disquiet among many much better players ( about 22 of them) none of whom were getting anywhere near that big $$$$ paycheque. In the Weid case some might harbour a bit of resentment that they are on the outer.
