Changes vs Cats 2024

I’m extremely hopeful that we can get the win on Saturday night and go on and push for top 4, but deep down I know not much has changed from last year.

Constantly sinking to bottom 4 teams’ levels and falling over the line basically every time we play them.

Anyway hopefully we’ve drilled down why we fell away so badly last year and we now start playing our best footy.

Id prefer Wright as second ruck over Goldy.

Our most recent performances against ‘good’ sides were pretty promising - pushed the pies + shared the chocolates and on an AVG day the margin between us and FCFC would’ve been about 10 pts

There’s definitely hope and particularly the Cats and Dees are sliding right now; blood in the water

Was Barrass on Caddy?

He was at times and so was McGovern. Both are quality defenders, McGovern is 32 and has had linjuries and has played 186 games over 10 seasons, consistently good. Put Kelly and Reid back into that team and it is much better than bottom 3.

No it’s not. That’s why after 15 rounds they are bottom 3.

Not a Wright lover but that’s a crap comment. Wright takes the biggest defender freeing up others and he can ruck. Caddy goes neither. The ultimate would be to replace Wright with a genuine power forward. I can understand why the Suns were’t fussed loosing him.

With Draper and Goldy rucking in tandem you could easily replace Wright’s presence in the forwardline.

Surely Guelf plays on Stewart.

2MP did SFA when we had two rucks in the side.

Gee cats injury list was good last week.

Dangerfield got a week and appealing, but given force of Walshs head hitting the turf, would be hard for them to appeal it.

Hawkins might be done for the year.

He might retire

Not sure how I’m feeling about dropping Kelly. The general feeling seems to be that he’s a good lockdown defender, but not very useful with ball in hand (and in a backline that involves Hep and Lav, that’s not very much drive coming out of HB, especially if Martin stays forward of centre (I hope he does) and Ridley\Redman don’t regain form in a hurry.)

However Geelong have both Stengle and Miers, and McGrath can only be expected to lockdown on one of them.

Although stats never tell the full story, Kelly’s stats from the WCE game are quite concerning for a supposedly good small\medium lockdown defender: 2 1%s, 2 spoils, (I think those are the 1%s) 0 tackles, 7 pressure acts (I think those are chasing\corralling the opponent, but if he’s got 0 tackles he’s not actually getting to them in time,) 0 intercept possessions. 11 marks (0 contested) and 13 kicks.

Those stats indicate he’s being used more as an “outlet” player whereby he uses his tank to find some space the ball gets kicked to him, he takes the uncontested mark, and then he dishes it off. However we know how he is with ball in hand (admittedly improved from last year, but still not fantastic.) If that’s the kind of role he’s playing instead of lockdown, there’s more scope to replace him in the upcoming match. Not sure who’d come in though.

Chris Scott might be up against it next year.

Dangerfield near the cliff, Hawkins on the cliff.

Touhy might call it too if Cats arent due to play finals.
Rhys Stanley done a great job to carve out career as undersized ruck.

could be
Out: Hawkins, Rohan, Stanley, Tuohy,
In: Bailey Smith,

Assume Danger plays on 1 more year.

2MP needs to drink from either DeKonings or Durhams water bottle
Aggression is such an important factor in afl.
2MP is way too passive.
If you look up ‘gentle giant’ in the dictionary you see a photo of 2MP.

I looked up ‘gentle giant’ and can confirm there is no picture of 2MP.

Bailey Smith isn’t a free agent, just out of contract. Geelong would need to trade for him you’d expect.

Maybe they would throw in caleb Daniel or Jackson Macrae too to help dogs out.
