‘Good bloke’ articles in the Hun and Rage (behind paywall)on Luke Sayers, headlining that he stands ready to cooperate in the PwC investigations.
All this happened under Demetriou’s poor excuse for leadership of the AFL
All starting to make sense now, Cyril was never going to turn his back on the club he became a legend at over a one off comment from JK about his wife’s jeans, there was so much more to it than that.
Also, wonder if this situation played a part in Buddy leaving.
Bloody norah
Jesus.
They’re among us, people. Stay safe.
I’d heard that Buddy needed an interpreter to understand Clarkson’s instructions on how to play, after which there was a consensus that Buddy was a freak natural best left to play by his own instinct.
However, Buddy needed to be heavily chaperoned off the field to keep him out of the media spotlight. Apparently it was a drain on Hawthorn staff resources.
I’ve seen some post comments from Cyril while at Hawthorn about how good they’ve been to him and his family, as though it’s some sort of smoking gun.
This ignores the lessons shared by Heritier Lumumba about his experience in a club environment, going along with racist and hurtful behaviour to fit in. It also ignores the fact that sometimes it takes time and distance from a situation to realise how someone’s behaviour has affected you.
Don’t usually go to big footy but was keen to see what hawk supporters are saying, I wasn’t surprised.
I saw a North Melbourne fan group post about it unfortunately popped up on my Facebook feed.
Good grief, some horrific comments.
The Rioli clan is huge, including Michael Long in the extended family, a different situation from Heritier.
When Cyril went public on his criticism, media reports referred to Long’s view that he was handling it the wrong way, noting an apparent generational divide on managing problems.
Linda Burney is staying out of it , she is focussing on the new Long Walk and the AFL role to promote the Voice.
Stuff like this, is EXACTLY why their names were kept hidden for so long.
That is a funny post, straight out of cloud cuckoo land. Dawks supporters will turn on each other big time, and if you think there is blood in the water now, get ready. This issue has the potential to rip this club apart. The battle lines have been drawn already. The fans will either be in the Clakko/Fagan/Burt are good guys and did nothing wrong, or Cyril and Co. As much as anything else this conflict will play out in the public arena and in the wild and vivid imaginations of some deluded fans, as we are now seeing. This won’t be resolved quickly, nor smoothly. I commend the players for taking the stance they have, someone had to do it, and the organization that should have, has reneged on their responsabilty big time, in order to protect their brand name. Unfortunately that is all the AFaiL now stands for, a hollow image, as guardians of the game, they have failed.
I read those lines as Rohan saying that it ended up being the wrong thing all the while of them trying to do the right thing.
(Hope that makes sense @tinhillterror)
If investigating concerns about racism within the club ‘turned out to be’ the wrong thing to do, I’m kind of curious what the right thing to do has turned out to be.
Just my opinion, don’t think it was the wrong thing for Hawthorn to investigate, more that the way it was handled by the AFL was the wrong way.
It’s just my opinion that Hawthorn acted with integrity in compiling the report, and in handing it over to the AFL.
I also don’t really see what any of this has to do with the AFL’s handling of Goodes being booed.
It doesn’t, however, the way the Goodes booing was handled does, it shows again, as we know, the AFL will exonerate themselves and make themselves look like the good guys regardless.
