ABC is now reporting that Worksafe is investigating.
As reported in European media, the Taliban is claiming that the host of the COP29 meeting, Azerbaijan, has invited the Taliban to the Baku meeting.
Itâs going to be an uncomfortable time for the representatives of all those countries and international organisations which donât recognise the Taliban as the legitimate Government of Afghanistan.
THe CEO of the host nationâs delegation to COP29 has been filmed using his posiition to promote oil and gas deals. There are currently a LOT of bots on Bluesky trying to push this news down the search result order if anyone searches for COP news.
Itâs almost to the point that this â â â â isnât news any more, and itâs more actually newsworthy when someone does something genuine and effective to reduce emissions. But I suppose itâs important to have a record of this stuff, just so our childrenâs generation knows who to send to the gibbet first for condemning them to a disaster-ravaged starving planet
The science underlying these issues is strong, but awareness is weak. Without fully appreciating and broadcasting the scale of the problems and the enormity of the solutions required, society will fail to achieve even modest sustainability goals.
A bit of work still to do in WA, but they are trending in the right direction.
Misleading graphic. Why is âthreatened speciesâ at 10% âdamagedâ? If threatened they would be much more damaged than thatâŚ?
âA bit of work still to doâ? In " worldâs biggest isolated grid", they should be applauded for doing what they have done so far. Itâs hard to get better than âworldâs biggestâ!
Anything in my post saying they shouldnât be applauded?
I think itâs great.
Of course there is always more to be done, but whatâs your thoughts about âthe bit of work still to doâ?
Credit for WA for what theyâve done, but at the brutal final analysis, the whole point of renewable energy is that it replaces polluting energy which results in less greenhouse emissions in the atmosphere. Itâs just not enough to wave your rooftop solar numbers around like a flag, if you;re busy exporting emission-heavy gas hand over fist.
The Biden admin was a bit the same. Trumpet how successful youâd been in increasing renewable power and implementing fuel efficiency srandards etc, but if you;re also talking up how they;re drilling record amounts of oil, then itâs all for nothing.
There are links in the article to scientific papers related to how they reached conclusions for each of those categories if you care to take the time.
TLDR: We are â â â â â â .
Just to reset the ideas around Lithium batteries and raw materials, mines in Australia are cutting production due to low prices caused by a global glut of new production. Lithium prices have dropped by 80% since the peak in 2022.
Large % increases on small starting volumes tend to be fairly easy. Moderate % increases on metals that are already in large volumes is much much much harder. Copper is the one to worry about.
Saw a great one. Stealing it.
Los Angeles should host the next UN climate change conference.
It would be Beverly Hills COP.
Does anybody know where Australia is at in joining up and/or updating its transmission grid? This seems to be a critical part of the whole CC plan.
AI Overview
Australia has several transmission upgrade projects underway, including:
- Rewiring the Nation
A $20 billion program to modernize the electricity grid and build new transmission infrastructure. The goal is to make clean energy more affordable and accessible for consumers.
- EnergyConnect
A 900 km transmission line to connect the energy grids of New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. This project will improve the reliability of the electricity supply and allow for future renewable energy connections.
- Queensland-NSW Interconnector (QNI)
A $236 million project to upgrade 300 km of transmission lines and replace 58 towers. The project was completed in June 2022 and allows more energy to flow between the two states.
- Mount Piper to Wallerawang Transmission Line Upgrade Project
A 330 kV transmission line to support the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
- HumeLink
A project with a timeline that includes environmental studies, community consultation, and construction. Construction is proposed to start in 2025 and finish in 2026.
Transmission capacity can be increased by building new lines or enhancing existing ones. Enhancing existing lines is often quicker than building new ones.
Thereâs also a lot of Renewable Energy Zones which are getting new transmission.
Marinuslink to connect the pumped hydro in Tassie to VIC.
A few interstate connectors to share excess in different areas.
And then some backbone upgrades along existing transmission corridors.
Too late due to the conservatives delaying obvious action, but itâs building up momentum.
No surprises from that â â â â stained rag.
