Climate Change in Australia (Part 2)

Not climate change, but something that could make a huge positive environmental impact for Australia. Getting rid of feral cats, cane toads, rabbits and pigs would be a miracle.

The CSIRO (back before they became a government-owned contracting science company for big miners) already did this with the daughterless carp program, didn’t they? I remember Barnaby Joyce going on about it, absolutely blind drunk, in parliament a few years ago. I wonder how that’s progressing.

Carpe Herpes

Trying to give all carp herpes.

There’s an awesome program that they’ve been running on the Murray where they rear the Murray cod fingerlings on carp eggs to give them a taste for it.

Theory being that when they are released in the wild they’ll continue to dine on the eggs to keep the population down.

Pretty clever

I do like the idea of invasive species breeding themselves out, rather than diseases that could spread to other species or idiot fishermen.

That infected fish was a set up by the THUGS in the Scallop Industry.

Well, this is embarrassing…

Flaring is avoidable and the gas can be captured and used to generate electricity or heat homes - yet it continues to take place across the world.

Pollutants from flaring include PM2.5, Ozone, NO2, and benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) which at high levels or continued exposure have been linked to strokes, cancer, asthma and heart disease according to international experts including the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Global flaring is also a major source of the planet-warming greenhouse gases CO2 and methane.

Two decades ago, the UAE national oil company, Adnoc - run by the president of this year’s COP28 climate summit, Sultan al-Jaber - committed to ending ā€œroutine flaringā€. Yet assessment of satellite images by the BBC shows it is taking place on a daily basis at offshore sites. The UAE is one of the biggest sources of oil for the UK market.

Amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere: 0.04%
Human contribution to total carbon dioxide: 3%
Australia’s contribution to total carbon dioxide emissions: 1.16%

Australia is therefore responsible for 0.0000139% of all carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (1.16% of 3% of 0.04%).

Shhh DENIER. We must fark the economy just cause …

You better let the big boys in on your secret.

Rio Tinto is planning to invest a further $600 million in renewable energy assets in the Pilbara as part of the company’s efforts to decarbonise its Western Australian iron ore operations .

Your first line is just numbers that are meaningless without context.

Your second line is just flat-out untrue. The actual number is something like 35-40%.

Climate change isn’t remotely interested in national borders. We are all in this together.

That comes from Alan Jones so no wonder it’s wrong.

I’m not going to pile on with that or throw attitude. Just legitimately curious, do the replies providing evidence that your post is incorrect change your view?

I’ve noticed two arguments put forth earlier. Both have been refuted many, many times over the years in this thread.

It’s willful ignorance at this point.

I’m sure we can expect a retraction from Mr Jones
