Pleasing to see that supply chain issues were mentioned several times in that article. Supply chains are a hidden behemoth when it comes to CO2 emissions, and the implementation of carbon-friendly heavy fuels would go a very long way to curbing emissions.
Yikes!
āBefore the industrial revolution, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere was about 288 ppm. We have now reached about 414 ppm, so we are on the way to doubling the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by the end of this century. Scientists say that if CO2 doubles, it could raise the average global temperature of the Earth between two and five degrees Celsius.ā
OK. Its not the day to day weather. Itās the accumulation of C02 in the upper atmosphere, way up, 50 klms up, where no one sees it, it out of view for most of the world so you can ignore it or allow keyboard scientists to simply throw doubt on it existence; thats the problem.
āIn addition, water vapor is concentrated lower in the atmosphere, whereas CO2 mixes well all the way to about 50 kilometers up. The higher the greenhouse gas, the more effective it is at trapping heat from the Earthās surface.ā
60gw is what we would need if all of Australia turned on everything at once.
That would power almost fifty flux capacitors.
We could go back and fix 1999.
And shoot the doctor who signed off on Trumpās bone spurs. His men would have been sure to frag him if heād gone to Vietnam.
And go back a bit further and milk shake Baby Putin, pop a cap in Rupert Murdochās arse and Iāll think of a few more things later.
We could prevent Neagle from playing on vs Geelong and live in a reality where Matthew Knights is an 8 time premiership coach for Essendon.
The east coast energy grid is about 89GW. Over the next year 3GW of wind and solar will be commissioned. Thatās intermittent, so if firmed with batteries Iām guessing it is 2GW equivalent.
NSW is basically maxed out on transmission. This was an issue that was politically dodged until it was too late. NIMBY factors stopped it being dealt with early on and now NIMBY is blocking transmission roll outs at the scale needed to replace coal on schedule.
We are past the point where economics and speed of construction of renewables is an impediment. Instead the blockage is approvals and construction of new transmission lines. Thereās massive demand for renewables and huge supply of finance to build these generators. The issue is no export path to get the energy to market, which means new builds cannot show a reliable return to lenders.
Why not just cut out the middleman?
Okā¦.
Or better sack the banker who kept funding Trump as an undischarged bankrupt.
It is obscene that those who seek to protect the living planet by democratic means are arrested en masse and imprisoned by the authorities, while the people and organisations trashing our life-support systems are untouched by the law.
Nothing new ā¦. Thatās the human condition since the dawn of time.
I donāt believe this to be true.
We should all be in this together, but we are not.
Maybe I am asking too much, but can we just bring plastic straws back!
Metal straws are your friend.
