Club logo/update? Nino has an idea

Perhaps if we’d swapped to this one during the Dank era we’d be happier with the one we have now.

The classic bomber for mine: (though I love stealth bombers…they’re insane)

Including the 2000 flag. Didn’t some Canadians recently judge it best logo in the AFL?

If not Mosquito, choose a Beaufort. Built in Victoria at Essendon and Fishermans Bend. And this one is unloading a torp towards (its) goal.

(The Beaufighter looks better though. And looks like it has its fists up ready to punch.)

Maybe a Torbeau variant of a Beaufighter?!

That is a powerful red and black image. They are just hitting industrial targets, right?

Yes, yes, of course…and military bases…

Most of the bombers in WW2 missed their targets.

Nothing wrong with our logo…it has symmetry, its timeless, thoroughly modern, and has a look of bringing complete and utter devastation, and that’s all we need as our symbol.

Just like Essendon and finals wins…

My grandfather was in a Beaufighter sqaudron in New Guinea during WWII and had a life-long love for the plane. I once asked him if it was true that it was nicknamed “whispering death” as it’s engines were said to be very quiet if it was flying towards you and he replied “yeah, that was true, but the best description was that it was a fist with wings”. Not exactly a bomber (technically a “strike” aircraft), but it was also built in Fisherman’s Bend in Melbourne.

If we’re going for a replacement logo and want to go with something iconic, it needs to be either the Mosquito or the Lancaster. No other option comes close.

Edit: And no thanks to Nino’s suggested option.

I’ve seen one of these things in business. Absolutely terrifying.

Mine might’ve trained yours- he was from Deniliquin and only went to New Guinea right at the end of the war. Afterwards he flew out of Essendon airport and here I am on Blitz. Go the mighty Heavy fighter/Strike attack aircraft!

Might be the other way around. My grandfather was with 30 Sqn when they first moved from Townsville to New Guinea. He was one of the original members of the Sqn when it was raised. Was there when they fought the Battle of the Bismarck Sea in March 1943.

Well that was some pretty handy service. I think 30 Squadron was mainly trained at Richmond in Sydney so perhaps they never crossed paths.

We are the only team that has a machine as a logo.
I like this. An updated version would be great.

Why does it automatically follow that old logos should be updated?

I almost think the opposite. Ours is so old it’s almost full circle and timeless again. Hang on to it
