When they work out where the cricket club is going?

In probably unrelated news, the draft Moonee Valley 23/24 budget announced two days ago includes funding to construct a modular pavilion at the southern end of Fairbairn Park. It’s described as for netball and tennis, and community groups.

Shade cloth for those things are on.
It’s poorly set out.
The shade is located assuming that the sun is directly above the seating.
The west sun in winter is going to be unbearable (if it isn’t already).
I’d be interested to see how much shade they actually provide.

And I’m not sure how long those posts will last. They look pretty sturdy, but I can just see it being vandalised.

They (landscape architects, not necessarily the club) should really have thought about continuing the seating from the forward pocket all the way to the wing. And had around 4 or 5 rows behind them cut into the landscape.
Sort of like what is just in front of the Essendon Rowing club on the Maribyrnong River.

Unfortunately, they spent all their money on the split face rocks that is under the seating.

Or what they’ve done at the Lions facility. From what I can see, the Lions have created a brilliant training and admin base. It doubles as a small time match venue. For all the money invested in our joint, the Lions appear to have created something more special tbh.

The lions will play their VFL and AFLW there. We plan to play at Windy Hill, hence where most the club’s money is going for a redevelopment

And that’s ok with me. So where’s that project at? What’s the reason for the delays? Have they secured the government funding yet? How many years until the projects completed?

We haven’t had any updates for nearly 12 months, yet it appears to have stalled.

The projects are in no sense comparable.

The Hangar initial funding was mostly funded by EFC:

The club ultimately raised $14 million towards the project in conjunction with the Australian Paralympic Committee, and received $4.75 million from the AFL and $1.8 million from the State Government.

The Bears have spent $80m. Yes, I know the below doesn’t add up but it blew out and I can’t easily see who paid the extra $17m (the extra is almost as much as our total above). When they started works/tin-shaking, they were on a decade-long string of financial losses and surviving on the AFL teat.

EDIT: it seems the Feds kicked in an extra $15m to ensure it actually got done.

The stadium is funded by the Palaszczuk Government ($18 million), Australian Government ($15 million), AFL and Brisbane Lions ($10 million) and Ipswich City Council ($20 million) plus ground works.

We’d have to seriously gold-plate the Windy Hill redevelopment to get the total across it and the two Hangar phases near $80m.

Agree. We need an update on Windy Hill

Whatever the reasons, we’ve created a facility. The Lions have created an all purpose venue, fit for matches and able to cater for thousands of spectators. It’s basically a replica of Punt Road Oval.

Whether we like it or not, The Hangar is soulless, uninviting, unfit to cater for spectators and possibly contributes to creating serious injuries and recurrences.

Now, if Windy Hill is to be our spectator friendly, spiritual home that is venue for matches, I’m all for that. However, what’s the updated timeline and where’s the club at with funding?

My concern is this is becoming a long term realisation and given supporters have given the club the excuse to be only ‘football focussed’, everything else is being deprioritised or pushed out.

Membership, member / fan engagement, interstate supporters connection (lack of it), Windy Hill redevelopment, home game contract arrangements. These important aspects of our club are all important and in my view appear to have been deprioritised. In the end, everything catches up and the loss of focus and investment in these areas will have implications on the health of our club in time.

Imagine if the was our boys meeting with Blitz. Half of them wouldn’t be play again, the rest would be in tears

Tears of laughter after hearing how little idea the average blitzer (me included) has about how football is played.

Speak for yourself Chris. Most of us Blitzers would be premiership winning senior AFL coaches.

That’s if we could field a team after all the players get injured running through walls for us.

To me it does not matter what the company is (provided its legal and has good ethics) their money is the same.

Mind you, standing gets you a higher/better view anyway.

Tactics weren’t the topic, the message was about showing some fight and hunger because the players are better than what they’ve been producing.

Didn’t help fwiw, lost the next game and booted from the champions league.

Whoevers designed this should be ashamed, how dissapointing.

Dreamtime match '22 was terrible.

Our clubs indigenous performers had no integration with the team. Walla had just retired. From memory no indigenous players in the team that night etc etc.

It looked like total breakdown of the fabric of the night from an EFC standpoint from a fan perspective.

By comparison Richmond, every player shook hands with their performers, their coach was talking to them as the match began etc.

The work the new president and board, coach etc has done in past i.e. 6-9 months or maybe less to rectify all of this was just immense.

And last night during the performance with the players and our indigenous oerformers in the pre-game etc it seemed as though EFC were on track and almost on even footing eith Richmond in supporting our vlubs history.

Big props to all involved.
