Doesn’t seem that odd to me. I had one fever after meeting a bunch of residents so they could yell at me; otherwise isolation absolutely has its benefits (see massively-reduced flu numbers).
I think the other thing this year, with ~4-5mths spent under a varied level stay at home orders, for many it was probably easier to just stay at home on their own when they detected some symptoms (even if mild) and wait till they resolved. 2 days at home not seeing anyone when you couldn’t go out and see anyone wouldn’t have seemed like a big impost.
I’m at one - because I was in NSW a couple of days prior to the border closing.
But I’ve not had any symptoms. To be fair, normally each year, I’ll get something that leaves me bed-ridden for a day or two and nothing else. In 2020, nothing. Which was a pleasant change.
Curious as to whether Australia offered testing to all the tourists repatriated from the Diamond Princess.
A US article critical of the CDC reported that the CDC did not countenance the possibility of aysmptomatic infection as late as March last year and did not offer tests to all of the Diamond Princess passengers it repatriated - all of whom would have been in the category of close contacts.
The mantra at that time was that it’s just like the flu - contagious when symptomatic
I’m not sure that’s correct.
I think it was known that you could at the very least infect someone prior to you having symptoms.
That early in the pandemic (especially here) testing was scarce so it was ‘prioritised’ towards people who had been in contact with someone from overseas and had symptoms.
At the time the Diamond Princess sought to dock in Japan, it was known that it had infected crew and passengers.
Someone who had disembarked in Hong Kong tested positive and Japan put the ship under quarantine, with subsequent testing revealing a number of infections.
I haven’t had a covid test yet either. No cold this year, not even a sniffle really. No reason to get a test. Plus i live alone and was WFH and shopping at most twice a week during the worst bits of the 2nd wave - there just didn’t seem to be the need.
