COVID-19 Round 13 - IT'S NOT A RACE!

Yes, in addition to the current hotel quarantine system. It isn’t replacing HQ

I think QLD wants to replace it

Police commissioner said himself at a presser a week ago when the hotspot was declared and they announced how they were going to manage the border. Better success in catching people without farcical fixed checkpoints that people can just drive around…

You can look it up for yourself if you wish.

SOO III moved to Newcastle - 75% capacity allowed.
Of course nobody from Sydney will try and sneak in.

Quick, close the border to everywhere.

Won’t happen. Passengers arriving from low risk countries are an example of who will still be sent to HQ

NSW commissioner?

If they get Wellcamp up with Pinkemba - what Annastacia said.
But Canavan saying no tertiary hospital no Toowoomba

  • the one about airport not large enough for international flights and no planes will fly there has worn thin, what with charters in the mix

-latest justification is that local MP told him the locals don’t want it.

No the Vic police commissioner. Ring of steel not effective, patrols work far better.

This year was a quad-vax

My recollection is that too resource intensive, not that they were ineffective

  • also, unlike second wave, ADF resources not forthcoming ( some withdrawn at one stage because needed for cyclone season and rotations etc up north)

That’s not what Patton said at all. He said it was a much better use of police resources, and that it was better for border communities due to less delays at checkpoints (both true). He hinted at it perhaps being more effective but there weren’t any meaningful statistics to support that argument - it was spin really.

The only reason they’re not doing fixed check points this time is because TPA cracked it.

In a perfect world you’d have roadblocks and random spot checks.
Unfortunately you’d probably need every cop in Oz to achieve that.

Resource intensive for limited impact. Only 1% caught v much higher using roving patrols.

Yeah pathetic excuses by Liberals who just cant cop anything labor thinks of first. They say the regions dont want covid in their backyard. What a lame excuse. So it’s ok for it to be brought in to the major capital cities where it continues to cause these lockdowns that deimate the national economy is it?

I’ve got a lot of Queensland relatives and it’s been an absolute ■■■■ show up there.

Perceptions in and outside(general public) qld health

Yes they are - Though I doubt you need a quarantine centre at this stage in the pandemic - By the time they are built the vaccine rollout should be widespread enough to stop quarantine for vaccinated returnees - Anyway if you do have them, from a risk management point of view, they should be primarily used for close contacts of community transmission cases.

TBF Canavan probably unaware that there are domestic commercial medivac charter services if a traveller can only be treated in a tertiary hospital.

Covid with be with us for years and who is to say how many mutations there will be, the long term efficacy of vaccines still yet to be proven. Long way to go. QLD toowomba site said to be able to be up and running in months. seems like a no brainer, which is ironic when you look at who is ultimately responsible for quaratine
