Most antivaxers are cowards. They have no conviction in their views which is why they won’t defend their position rationally.

I’ve found amongst those I know there are two kinds that have stood out:

• those who have an “all natural” outlook, who don’t have faith in medicine and want to put organic, natural stuff in their bodies (yeah, I know)

• those who aren’t that educated (or bright), so see being privy to inside knowledge you don’t know as making them superior in some way. They’re “researching”, finding out stuff about stuff, although they have little academic acumen and actually make themselves appear even less smart to the rest of us

My anti-vax mate is both of these - a wellness nut who DHOR & cherry picks pseudo science from the margins to suit an ideology. Similar behaviour to climate change deniers really.

Can I also add that one of the most important aspects of a relationship that lasts is being able to have different opinions, actions and activities without it damaging the relationship, and respect for each other’s opinions. There are some decisions that need to be made together, but some decisions, especially ones that mainly affect one of you, should preference the one making the decision.

If you choosing to take what you think is the right thing for your health is a dealbreaker for the relationship, how far does that extend to other areas of your life, and is that a healthy thing for your relationship ongoing? I’m not suggesting you should be selfish and sacrifice the relationship for your own needs, but a healthy relationship shouldn’t preclude you from expressing your opinions and dreams of the future without fear of reprisal.

Long term, hiding your feelings from her, regardless of how uncomfortable talking honestly may be, is unlikely to lead to anything good.

To be fair, at some level of vaccination, where we believe the hospitalisations and deaths aren’t unsustainable, letting the cases increase IS the plan, which means we won’t be looking to keep Reff below 1.

I don’t know how to positively address the concerns some of the anti vaxxers have raised me with (mixture of some colleagues and friends).

So, I guess they do not have a mobile phone right? They never surf the internet, or use a search engine , right? They do not drive a registered vehicle? right and they spraycan all the surveillance cameras they can find right ? They do not have credit cards or bank accounts and do not have a tax file number or a medicare card?

1984 was 37 years ago. Big Brother is watching , get used to it.

I think I can summarise this category in one word. Gullible. While most gullible people may not be that bright, some are. Scammers can get anyone who’s guard is down when they’re approached.

We have always been united and on the same page until now. It’s uncharted territory and it’s scary. Just gives me the ■■■■■ that she’s been infected by her crazy family’s rhetoric and now she is fully on board and siding with them. I’ve made it worse by so far sympathizing with her, albeit not as strongly.

Ultimately I think I’m going to have the vaccination as I want to live a life, and she will have to choose what she really wants - continue to side with her family and share anti-establishment videos & be excluded from participating in activities with myself and our family, or choose to get vaccinated and join us - I’m worried right now about what she would choose.

You have a right to decide whats right for yourself. All people keep secrets from each other. Just get the jab and keep quiet about it ! That solves both issues.

There is a case in Melbourne where a shop owner has banned anyone who has been vaccinated from coming in her shop.

Well, how does she know who has been jabbed and who hasn’t ?

• there’s a tracking chip in the vaccine.
• this is a plan created by the free masons.
• this is linked to the 5G roll out.

act interested, use the socratic method, question from a level dumber than theirs
