The vaccine is designed for the Wuhan strain spike protein. It trains the immune system to respond effectively to that assault.
The Delta variant has altered this slightly, but the vaccine target is still reasonably similar. This is normal. Viruses mutate all the time and the immune system uses similar historical exposures to tweak their response. It means we arenât starting from zero with delta, we have a head start.
Now natural immunity is a bit more effective. You end up with immunity to the spike protein and a second immunity to the rest of the virus. The problem is that you need to survive to gain that protection. Good chance you die or get permanent disability as payment.
If you are vaccinated and get a break through infection, then you get a very mild case and then end up with the improved natural immunity at the end. There is zero advantage to getting sick without the vaccine to give your immune system some level of a head start.

Itâs been obvious for some time (and supported by plenty of evidence) that masks reduce transmission of this âtalking virusâ. At what point does making unsubstantiated claims about Childrenâs use of masks (a no harm intervention) really help anything. A slightly wound back âthereâs not a lot of evidence on the affect with kids, but thereâs lots of support for mask wearing in adults, and the transmission method is the same for kids, and there is no negative to having kids wear them when theyâre in the classroomsâŠâ How hard is it to speak calmly, rather than making definitive (and wrong) statements and attaching an #auspol hashtag.

LNP has a few MPs with medical qualifications who get pumped up for their medical expertise and who go outside their lane in giving views on Covid ( sometimes with Dixers in Parliament, sometimes as the nominee backbenchers in chat programs with Journalists). Katie Allen is prominent.
This is accompanied by Newscorpse sniping at the competence of CHOs Sutton and Young and continued requests for the details of their medical advice underpinning their Orders
- in contrast when journos ask for the health advice of Kerry Chant , they are cut off at the pass
- and Hazzard blocked her from answering Qs at a NSW Parliamentary Inquiry ( she was under oath)

I have a question. When Australia re-opens its borders to inwards and outwards travel will states have different rules regarding home quarantine or the like ?
Yes. WA for example is talking about months of closed borders beyond NSW / Vic âopeningâ .
Most likely.
Decision rests with the States once they cross the national border - but would need to be justifiable on health grounds under State laws.
The idea with the trials is to assemble evidence that any post border quarantine is workable - and to reach some sort of common understanding.
To note also that the NatPlan is silent on internal borders between the States - S.92 of the Constitution is relevant to this.
Itâs all a work in progress , like the vax passport.
