Qantas Flies Non-Stop from Buenos Aires to Darwin
Qantas operated its longest ever "commercial" flight yesterday, flying 107 passengers non-stop from Buenos Aires in Argentina to Darwin.
Nice of NSW to act as guinea pigs for the rest of us
I know its a bit of a joke, but can you see any other government actually running with such a risk?
Here in Vic, we couldn’t do that. The media scrutiny and intensity will be insane if it goes pear shaped.
Unfortunately, that is where our state government is.
Again…
We had an outbreak in a hospital a day ago that had more scrutiny and media around it than the 5 hospital outbreaks and the bevy of Aged Care outbreaks in NSW.
There have been many examples (in the other thread) of the way media have reported things differently between the two states.
That makes government work vastly different and take different risks.
Decent length repatriation flight:

It’s not a personal twitter account. Nothing to read into it not being used when on leave.
Norman says Vic may be about to peak?
Case numbers high, but expected hospitalisations etc have halved.
Wonder about the wind currents across the Pacific and Southern Oceans. IIRC, flightpaths to ot from South Africa dip low south , something to do with the roaring forties.

Some of the major events that may have affected 1st and 2nd dose rates are indicated.
Many other events and factors, especially supply and when doses became available to states
Note critical supply shortages starting around late July until mid Sept seriously impact the Victorian coverage first and second doses.
It’s time to open up, and good to see NSW taking the initiative here and giving tangible freedoms to its people. It must be a great feeling to know you’re taking decent steps back to normality!
0 deaths in NSW yesterday? Awesome news if true.
No, not reported yet. It recently dropped references to deaths in the intro to its first statistical dashboard public release.
Ah ok. Thanks.
Why? They said that was an important stat and now they are hiding it so it isn’t front and center.
National border to vaxed NSW could be open in advance of State borders to them.

Really noticeable in how much further Victoria ended up trailing NSW in 2nd doses vs 1st doses. We trail about 2 weeks on first dose, but more than that on 2nd.
Not hidden, report comes later, downgraded in news priority.
Interval between first and second Pfizer doses, reflecting supply uncertainty in Victoria at the time?
Same difference, deaths are being deemed unimportant to the news after it was previously declared one of the stats we should watch.
Daylight saving messes up scheduling of pressers. Vic and Qld likely to be at same time of 11.15 for east coast daylight savers.
ABC saying no NSW presser at 11am.
It’s mainly done that way because it’s the shortest distance. Going across the Pacific in a direct line as it appears on a map would add probably 30-40% more miles to the trip.
Darwin is happy though as they go into the record as one of only 4 cities in the World to receive a direct flight from all inhabited continents
