Covid 19 - Round 7 - Keep calm and don’t go to the butcher

They were very careful with the language they used when talking about those figures yesterday. Lot of focus on the “if nothing changes” aspect of it, because they are bringing in / reinstating various measures. Basically infection rates have been doubling every seven days for the last few weeks. The graph was a continuation of the current trend. Think the prediction was 200 deaths per day, not 2000, in line with different age groups becoming infected etc.

Effectively, summer is over, time to clamp down and try to hit winter with low levels of the virus in the community.

Indeed, the figure was 200 not 2000 - literally skim read the article this morning over breakfast. My mistake.

But yes, agree with that summary.

It’s hard to say, but in Northcote there was a group of around 22 cases that took 23 days to recover. As majority of cases her have been aged care, maybe that’s a ball park figure?

Although, if someone is hospitalised, I’d say it could be a lot longer (or shorter I guess, if they pass).

I see what you tried to do there…

totally spontaneous as well

So if the target was 30-50 cases on the 24 day average, what happens if we come under? Surely a lil bonus for the good people of Victoria.

I’m happy to keep applying the pressure and get to the next stage quicker.

Imagine being able to have people over for Grand Final day?

Ha!

Sadly, I actually don’t mind watching the GF solo.

But I think all their restrictions have been lifted AFTER big event days, so not much hope for GF parties I think.

That’s easy:

  • They did nothing when they detected Rydges outbreak, lied and hoped it wouldn’t amount to much
  • A month after Rydges outbreak was detected, contact tracing team was only capable of doing 20 cases per day - backlog in cases started to buildup and they lost any chance to contain the outbreak.
  • Pressure to improve Vic Tracing from media, Hunt and anyone with a brain who noticed what NSW was doing with Crossroads outbreak was a much better response than Vic.
  • Andrews forced to accept Commodore Hill and logisticians and staff from ADF to help with contract tracing.
  • A week later Commodore Hill submitted report recommending changes to Morrison and Andrews (largely accepted) - including sending VanDiemen back to light duties, and seconding in 3 more A/CHOs including Cheng.
  • A week later Contact team was handling 500-700 cases a day and backlog started to reduce. But by then new cases had gone from 20 cases a day to the peak.
  • If not for media and political pressure on Andrews, and arrival of ADF & interstate support, the outbreak would have been much worse. If ADF and interstate help had been bought in earlier outbreak, deaths and lockdowns would have been much less.

Andrews says “no contract team in world could handle 600 cases a day, most gave up at 50”. But reality is Vic team failed at 20, but was later able to handle the peak - he just doesn’t want to give feds (and many HCW staff seconded in) credit and acknowledge how badly Vic DHHS mgmt failed early.

I had to check what thread I’m in today.

So what happened? You can post your support of Andrews in here but if you don’t you are shuffled off to the other thread?

We wouldn’t need the other thread if certain people were capable of rational discussion when it came to the political side of all things Covid.

Not talking about you. Just saying there are people viewing the thing entirely through the blinkers of their own bias. (Both in support of or rage against Andrews) They came stomping into this thread frothing at the mouth about the failings of vic alp and were set upon by the supporters and it totally derailed any meaningful discussion that contained helpful information to the blitz community.

I’m glad this thread is far more @Hoffy updates and @Blummers32 stats and forecast models. It’s really helped me cope.

The way it was going it was so far off serving the common good the whole thread was going to get shut down. At least with the politics version people can enter it knowing what it is, and don’t fall into a rage orgy by accident trying to find out if a dog park is open.

TAKE IT TO THE BLAME THREAD

Exactly.

So why focus on the first 20-30, when it was the wildfire spread that happened after where the real fallout occurred.

Ok yeah, this ■■■■ doesn’t help anyone here.

I know all you guys like to get all hard over anything that might make a miserable situation worse, and helps you confirm your suspicions that Andrew’s is proof Karl Marx invented a time machine.

But you can take it to the other thread, that’s the one for ■■■■■■■ matches.

To each there own. I actually don’t mind entertaining other people’s opinion even if that person sees there takes as hot zingers, when’s it just an extension of the tabloids

It’s helping me prep for the first post lockdown family BBQ!

Think the first few catch ups with families will be interesting, to say the least.

I really really need Essendon to get their ■■■■ together so I can use them as an excuse to skip family get together next year.
