So get to Melbourne, documents and everything ready but NO border control… what’s with that???
SA and NT have been doing strict checks since August - are we just trusting the general public to fill in accurate online documents and that’s enough??
I’d prefer declare my travel at a station in Vic than have a mandatory mask from airport to home.
I also know SA have AFP because people would false testify overseas travel and declare they only come in from interstate.
Maybe I’m over reacting or maybe the police officer should back off slightly which has triggered me when I arrive at an airport without a mask, I dunno It all seems so inconsistent
They probably can’t afford the police to check because they’ve spent all the money on the constant radio ads telling people they need a permit to enter VIC.
In Vic, masks still required in supermarkets, shopping centres, public transport, closed indoor settings where 1.5 isn’t possible, chemists and any other places if directed.
Some confused reporting, but it seems the deal is that Victoria won’t charge HQ fees to any Tasmanian returned travellers arriving in Melbourne.
Andrews had earlier foreshadowed an expectation of a Commonwealth role in costs for seasonal workers. It is not clear who is meeting the costs of workers to be quarantined in Tasmania . There was some sort of financial scheme earlier announced by Littleproud to get people to crop farms.
There were some numbers of Tasmanian arrivals cited, but I can’t see how Victoria could control the State of origin of passengers on international flights.
An earlier scheduled repatriation flight to Hobart was switched to Darwin.
The way I understood it was that the Vic government and agricultural industry bodies would foot the bill for HQ in Tasmania and would also pay for the domestic flights from Hobart to Melbourne. In return the Tasmanian government would pay for the 330 passengers in Melbourne HQ
Are international returnees “the new asylum seekers”.
When Morrison gets up and talks about how his primary role is the safety of Australia, and limits will remain you can imagine him wanting to say “we decide who will come to Australia” “no queue jumpers”. And reductions in international caps are the equivalent of boat turn backs.
He knows half will cheer, a quarter will be ambivalent and a quarter will oppose.
It’s like they’ve got the refugee playbook out of the cupboard and just crossed out a few words.
