Still think the key number is community (untraced) transmission. That gets out of control, hospitals feel it a week or so later.

ATM seems like community transmission is generally under control. We are still seeing a dribble of it, though. Some states/territories have been clear of it for a fortnight or longer. They are in a good position.

May have been planned - his twittter followers went viral after that tweet.

NZ heading to level 2.

And; the virus will keep mutating, will the vaccine keep being updated to deal with mutation?
Yeah/nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Which is?

Yep. It didn’t take the pandemic to figure that out.

No offence, but this is such a slap in the face comment.
Do you actually think it takes 5 minutes to create a vaccine?
Does it take a month to test it so that we can be 99.999% sure that it won’t affect people of different age groups and with ailing problems adversely?

Scientist are working very hard around the world to get a vaccine so that we can get closer towards our normal lifestyle.

A bit more respect for these people who are going to save many lives wouldn’t go astray.

Cedar suggests a Lebanese ethnic link - maybe Maronite Christians?

I think its a valid question. BTW I am not sh1tcanning the people working in labs to find a cure.
I am simply asking will the vaccine keep working, if the virus keeps on mutating? Valid question.

Depends on what the vaccine uses to elicit an immune response. Ideally, a vaccine is robust to mutations, and in this case it looks like the vaccine will be using sub-units, so a part of the virus which is maintained across generations. If that happens, mutations shouldn’t be of any concern.

This is also a vast simplification of the process! Whether there is something which is maintained, whether it can even elicit a response, and whether that response actually provides immunity are all very complex questions in isolation.

If you want to make yourself sad, watch Dan Andrews’ press conference this morning on Facebook for ten minutes without the comments, and then turn the comments on.

His followers went up over 1000 overnight after that tweet. I think it was Nobel prize winner is just like us after all.
