Cricket Part II

Prithvi Shaw, playing his first test for India, hits a ton in his first innings at pretty much run-a-ball.

Not yet 19.

You sound pretty sure about that.

Where’d he get the name Shaw I wonder. Maybe the time of Roger and the raj perhaps.
Mmmmmm.

Not uncommon for some Indians of a certain caste to have anglicised surnames

Roger binny - selectors left him out last night

Anglo Indian, like Daniel Kerr or I used to work with an Indian bloke called Wood.

Yep many Indians from Christian families have western names.

No surprise that a cricket match in NSW got washed out

Angelo Matthews in Sri Lanka is pretty much the blackest player in that team. Not much white in that bloodline.

Judging from langer’s comments you’d think renshaw won’t be picked, meaning Head, Labuschagne and Finch will all make test debuts this weekend, plus maybe Neser as well. When did we last have 4 debutants playing a test?

We had 3 when we blooded Renshaw, Handscomb and Maddinson in Adelaide 2 years ago. Four is a stretch, probably have to go back to either the Packer WSC days or even the mid-80s when those Rebel tours to South Africa took place.

Langer has already said that Finch will be opening. It was on the news either last night or the one before.

My mind is absolutely blown that they reckon Aaron Finch has the mindset and technique to play on UAE pitches. He is only borderline in the Vic’s best side for red ball cricket. All based on a very good season of white ball cricket. Patience not exactly his calling card. And he’s 30+.

I think Labuschagne is a reasonable enough pick.
Still think MMarsh should get the new ball over there, and take an extra full time spinner. Otherwise he’s in there as a specialist number 7.

And Finch isn’t an opener in the long form.

The only reason he is playing is because he isn’t useless against spin, but they’ll open him and expose him to a swinging ball honed in on off stump.

I feel very saga about the current Australian team.

And I’m starting to get why the old man was so down on Hilditch.

An innings of 184 against NSW in the opening match of the 1984/85 Sheffield Shield, plus a string of other good scores, led to his recall to the Australian Test team for the fourth Test against the West Indies at Melbourne. Hilditch made 70 and 113, his maiden Test century, to not only win the Man of the Match award, but also help end the West Indies then-record run of 11 consecutive Test victories. For the next Test in Sydney, Hilditch was named as Australian vice-captain.

Seriously how’s dies this Neser guy get a gig over Sayers? Guy has 1 first class 5 for and isn’t young at 28.

Queensland appears to be the new NSW. Blokes who you barely hear of now seem to be making the squad. Labuschagne, Neser, Doggett. There’s probably some bloke working in an IGA somewhere in Townsville who’ll get a call-up before Maxwell…

IGA have a very strong indoor cricket team in Townsville.

Because he bowls quicker… we are obsessed with pace.

In saying that I don’t think the Middle East is really the place for Sayers to be bowling.
