Heavy roller has an impact on pitches and keeps it settled for a while. Once that wears off the pitch starts playing up, uneven bounce, etc.
Does the batting team choose the roller
Marsh is getting a bit of drift in
yep
Always thought the opposite.
Ta
So we’ll just ignore that two of the last three Tests here have had massive results.
Okay.
Agarwal averages nearly 50 in FC in India, how is this his first test?
Niiiice.
Maybe the pitch was a couple of hours young.
They ARE half paced trundlers, lol. But they’re struggling , playing across the line, not entirely comfortable.
A little too straight this over.
Decent session in the end.
What bugs me is when it’s as simple as what roller they used, the commentary lends itself to how amazing it is that the pitch has changed and batsmen are hopping around etc. like it’s some sort of Harry Potter villain.
Then you turn over to grandstand expecting something different only to get Tim lane reading off his footy commentators handbook.
Good first session considering we lost the toss. Both sides will be happy.
Boring as batshit for mine.
Only interesting thing was the Indians ducking & turning their heads to balls going through about stomach height.
Marsh got the only form of movement that I could see, and it was very minimal. Some decent fuller length balls but thrown in with some rubbish. But he’s a part timer so that’s OK.
Cummins bent his back. No swing or anything but he bowled very well, some of those short balls were vicious and he got his just desserts with his wicket.
Starc was rubbish. No movement or swing. Too wide. Disappointing.
Hazlewood started the same as Starc. Thought he looked OK in his second spell.
Lyon didn’t get much.
Basically apart from maybe the odd ball this pitch offers nothing to the bowlers. Is this pitch getting quicker? it felt like it in the last 10 overs. We need Starc to help his mates because Marsh put him to shame.
It is test cricket, what do you expect, wickets every over?
That to me was good test cricket, neither team controls the game at this point.
Have to agree with ABC comm that it’s looking likely already that a draw is best we can do with this.
Hotter tomorrow and anything could happen of course, but it does have that sort of feel about it atm.
Ball getting to the keeper with less than 2 bounces would be nice.
Even, yes. But that’s not always entertaining.
So Handscomb brought the sandpaper out? How did he escape sanction?
What would peoples dream pitch be?
Fast and bouncey like Perth?
Green top swinging everywhere?
Cracks galore?
Good to bat on early then turns a mile later on?
It’s hard to get the mix right, but a slow, overly bat friendly pitch would be low on my list.
