Marnus looks more like a villain in an action movie, but there is definitely a likeness to Tom Scully. PlayStation Portable = Handscomb. His initials are PSP.
Or it could be they have worked on their game, kinda like dropping a Parish or a Langford. Thatâs the whole idea of dropping then proving your worth in the twos, right?
Anyway, those guys arenât necessarily the answer when we are missing our two best batsmen, however I think Cowan has some merit, albeit it a more recently retired cricketer as Ice says.
Chappell and Hohnes ainât no Wayne Bennett- pull up the stumps and put in some new younger blood pls.
I think the difference is that Marsh has had multiple opportunities to work on his game in the two and prove his worth again at test level and it hasnât worked. Wade, Burns et al have been dropped have been knocking on the door (no banging) and now need to be afforded the same luxury.
S Marsh has a horrid recent test record, itâs clear he had no more improving at 35 and multiple chances, give the next guy that has had to âdo the timeâ another chance.
No, we donât need a 5th bowler. We need our specialist batsmen to bowl a bit to fill some overs when necessary and most importantly we need our batsmen to score more runs to:
(a) give the bowlers more of a rest
(b) give them a target to bowl at
(c ) put some pressure on the opposition.
Itâs much more important that we have our best 6 batsmen playing then it is having a 5th bowler.
I reckon warne and Mcgrath played about 120 Tests each with just the 4 bowlers.
Imagine how many they wouldâve played⌠could still be going.
Cut down in their primes.
There is a big part of me that would love to see Patterson in as a 4th quick (Ashes) with Lyon as the 5th bowler. Screw the genuine all rounder, get our two best batsmen back and give the tail another chance for a big happy wag if required, which will.be less likely without the MarshesâŚ
Once the ball is a bit older - 3 quicks rotating in 5-6 over spells at one end, Lyon at the other with part timers giving his fingers a chop out for a few overs as he needs it.
We have consistently failed - for years actually - to field a lineup that can regularly (or even occasionally!) bat for three sessions, let alone well into a second day.
Even with a decent attack, sides will post at least a few decent scores against it in a series. We are largely incapable of the same. The issue is certainly not a 5th bowler, or even a part time bowler. Itâs an inability to post 450 plus at any stage. The rest is just â â â â â â â in the wind.
Smith was picked initially as a bowler, then all-rounder at six. I mean I canât guarantee that Mitch Marsh will one day average over sixty but youâd have to agree itâs practically guaranteed.
