David Barham - Our new Board Overlord

Sorry I must have missed that one but I concur!

Happend 10 years ago too no one from that regime will still be at the club imo

So it’s gone from, and I quote;

“The person who holds a CEO position must reflect the values of the organisation that they lead and represent and throughout the course of the day yesterday it became apparent that this was not the case for Andrew. There was a clear conflict in values from being a director of the church that do not align with being the leader of the Essendon Football Club.”

(Club rep to me after I quit)

To;

" “We have no problem with anyone’s faith or anyone’s religion,” Barham told The Age. “We had a problem with Andrew’s chairman position of the church conflicting with the values of our club. Everyone of all faiths is welcome at Essendon Football Club.”

Essendon’s view was that Thorburn’s membership of the church was not an issue, only his leadership."

(Age article)

Is it just me or are those two statements not the same?

That is a normal question and in a standard CEO contract would have been addressed. How can we get CEO Alf a club and chair of another organisation. I people will say it happens but shows he was never all in.

I think the two statements are the same messaging but the second takes into account members who have expressed concern at Thorburn positioning his resignation as a result of his faith.

But maybe less hell and damnation from the pulpit of Melbourne Arch than from the then Anglican Sydney Arch ?
He was not popular in Canberra.
IIRC he split off to form another community.

Was clear from the start that Barham would never be the uniting figure we needed long term.

He is a disruptor. Has a 3-6 month job to flip the place upside down, and will ride off into the sunset and forever be known as the man that set Essendon back onto the right track.

Clearly stuffed up with the CEO appointment but wasn’t afraid to move on quickly, either. Bloke is trying desperately to set us up long term.

He’s gone from Dave back to David for the time being for mine.

Yep. Paid big bucks and E&Y to help facilitate the process rather than google and the media bottom feeders and general plebs lose their ■■■■……granted it was still dodgy that he somehow went from reviewer to CEO.

Anyway, I’ll forgive David one last time.

Spot on.

Barham is exactly what we need to lead us back to relevancy. Disruptions are bumpy but have good intentions.

They’re having a bob each way it feels.

No matter. Hell of a ride tho.

Using emotion emojis? It’s all the rage at the moment for gauging sentiments.

This is more than a bump in the road. It has revealed a sinkhole swallowing up governance and integrity

First class means you ride at the front of the plane right, like Gil?

This from Gil also provides quite a bit of insight imo “To be honest with you, that he went with his faith doesn’t surprise me because he’s a person of great conviction.”.

I think efc knew all along who they were hiring and so did the afl but the people in these “first class” positions are so completely out of touch and too far up their own ■■■■ to know or care and think they can get away with hiding behind virtue signalling while being total ####s.

Well they got called out on it and now the club is in another mess.

To be honest i reckon it’s all bs. They would have known about his church and thought it wouldn’t get as big of a reaction as it would and would blow over in a day or two. They didn’t realise how crazy people would go over it. Then Andrews threw the boots in too.

They then probably got a call from gill with all the bad media attention about it and he probably advised ‘he needs to stand down from the church or ceo gig’. Instead of sticking to their decision, the board then crumbled under the pressure.

Funny enough now they are on the other side of the fence and religious people are ■■■■■■ off that he has been discriminated against.

Personally i find it extremely hard to believe they didn’t know his involvement in the church and the churches policies, they just backflipped coz of the pressure from the mob.
