It was 40k back then.
Add in another 20k people.
I’m pretty sure it’ll be a bigger issue than you’re giving any credit for.
They did.
That’s why Campbell set up a grand masterplan for it.
Then covid hit and it got delayed.
Now there’s AFL and Vic Gov tipping money in to make it an AFLW standard stadium.
Wasn’t actually even 40000.
It only takes money and Elon has it. He must be an Essendon supporter.
Hi Lefty, both Dave and I don’t have any re-appointments available! It’s up to the Members to decide.
A board member on blitz isnt going to end well
They didn’t. They sorted nothing. This mob “running” the Club couldn’t get a root in a field of turnips. Moonee Valley Council are still dickacting over ownership. Campbell’s plan was written on the back of a beer coaster, or might as well have been for all the use it is.The pensioners’ clubs are still refusing to allow any development. The old stands are slowly falling down. The Club won’t even maintain the pavers paid for by the members. Never mind COVID - that was four years ago, but they’ll still be using it as an excuse for their failure in another 20 years’ time. Pathetic. The idea of an “AFLW standard stadium” is just fobbing the women off with an inferior product, as if they don’t deserve the real deal.
We’ve had multiple! At least Paul and Katie pop in on numerous occasions.
You say we should lobby the government to pay for its development. So what are we lobbying them for?
COVID is important. Since then, the state government has had to tighten their spending. And we’ve had changes on the board, CEO’s etc. We also didn’t have an AFLW team until after covid which does change things somewhat. We’ve had 3 years of it and housed its support staff at Tullamarine.
Windy Hill has a far better use now as an AFLW match stadium. And that’s what it is being used for and being developed further for.
We could do certain training sessions there as it has been doing from time to time but the main operations would be better suited at Tullamarine with everything else.
I think when Windy Hill gets discussed, we want it to be what it used to be. When it really was outgrown by the industry a long time ago. Well before we even moved out to Tullamarine. Windy Hill has its place and AFLW games sit perfectly well for it.
What are you expecting Windy Hill to be used for and what is the benchmark?
A 60k stadium is bigger than Marvel Stadium. Something like that is not going anywhere near that area.
The Club has received some funding from the AFL to start stage one redevelopment of facilities. Have you seen the latest news? We running the Club care deeply about Windy Hill - its a huge priority in our plan. It’s our spiritual home so important to our Club history and will play a key role in football and the community in the future.
DT from Absolute Essendon should apply for a board posistion
All Directors are volunteers. There is a misconception we are paid and don’t seem to care much about our football. Personally, I’m a hard core Essendon member who want the same thing as all members and fans - to win Premiership flags! On-field success.
Hi Melissa, are you able to provide any insight please into the situation with our Marvel contract expiring (what does that mean for 2025?) and yet no additional MCG home games next year
An effective board enhances members confidence that the club is heading in the right direction.
Why should members be confident in the clubs direction?
Not at the moment but can find out.
Two years ago, a majority of Directors stood for the external review and helped map out the plan to lay the foundations for a new era of success. We appointed Andrew Welsh to our board as Football Governance Director, Craig Vozzo as CEO (he has Premiership football experience and recruitment expertise) and Brad Scott as senior coach. We’ve significantly increased investment in football development program. We also invested over $500k in our high-performance training facilities at the Hangar. We recently resurfaced the MCG training ground at the Hangar. Add in recruitment to the mix. We’re setting expectations and holding accountability. We’re here to improve, to win.
Hi Melissa,
Are you able to provide any insight into the club’s previous commitment to enhancing our links to our proud aboriginal history.
Since those bold statements were made Dean Rioli
And paddy Ryder have come and gone and long term project players like Munkara, Tex Wanganeen and Jayden Davey have been delisted.
This remains a priority. Watch this space, announcements soon to come. Ps. we all supported Dean coaching the women’s Tiwi Bombers in Darwin a few weeks back for Dreamtime in Darwin a few weeks back. So great to see some of our alum in the team as well - oh, and WIN!
Melissa, can
You also please provide any insight into after another year of capitulation not one change to the coaching panel was made and if anything we seem to have reduced development coaches for 2025?
Thank you very much.
One more thing. The Essendon board is one of Governance - not management. We work through the CEO Craig Vozzo and management to govern our club. No individual Director dictates club strategy or on-field decisions - as much as we would love to sometimes!
