This is the winning kind of thinking I’m on board with. Adjust your sites folks, beating the Saints would be a lick of salty sugar. The kids are okay, they’re not getting demoralised every week, they’re getting to play at the elite level. We need to be as much of a chance at the best kids in the draft as possible.
Yeah, if St.Kilda win today, the odds of finishing 16/17 are very small, so we can all enjoy any (albeit unlikely) win we have in the last three games. I don’t think we win any FWIW.
It would take NM beating Adelaide or Richmond beating Geelong, and I don’t see either of those happening.
If St Kilda win today, we are not going down a ladder spot, ain’t happening. Our losses the past two weeks have been too close to drop below Richmond on percentage (and they got belted). So there is a prospect of a guilt free win in there somewhere.
BUT - we also have to keep an eye on Melbourne’s position particularly vis a vis Carlton given TDK. So a win against one of st Kilda or Carlton could move Melbourne up.
So we are probs best continuing on the competitive loss path.
The feel good win to make so many content and happy about the state of the club and the “rebuild”. The usual journey into the false sense of security. The justification that we’re “not too far away!”.
This club and team deserve a massive losing streak to end the season as a reality check of the club’s situation. The supporters? Clearly not. But too bad.
I had to re-check the ladder and I’m not quite right - it won’t mean as much as I thought, but I could see us beating Saints and Carlton and costing ourselves draft picks, or just Saints and costing us (via Melbourne) a spot.
