Dons v Saints - Sunday 5th July: 3.15 game @ Marvel [spec]

Yep, I called it (@Stallion). I said we simply had to pick him because he never misses a kick. The issue is that we had committed to Kako (who isn’t a bust), but Reid is a rare type of player.

The question is, would he be as good at Essendon? Massimo’s kicking was hit and miss at Essendon, yet seems to hit every target at Hawthorn. Not sure what it is about this club, but we make players worse.

Because mass is playing for a coach who actually coaches him and has given him confidence. Must be nice to know that you aren’t going to be blamed for a loss or get dropped after 1 poor kick

I’d argue the form of May and how much he has come on pre-injury has probably made the call on Mcmahon easy for us.

some yes, but there are countless players who have been delisted due to behavioral issues at every club, sometimes it takes a delisting to turn around, others never do and spiral, we are not the first club to delist a player for this reason and we wont be the last. It just gets so fricken boring hearing the same rubbish anytime he plays well, how long do you and others intend to harp on about it?

True, but goals aren’t coming as easily to the opposition.

Combination of moving a too slow & timid McKay out of defence as well as conceding less goals from forward half intercepts and stoppages to my eyes.

However, no improvement in defending defensive transition.

In the last 4 rounds, we are second last for scoring shots conceded per inside 50. The metric that has improved is goals per inside 50. Obviously hard to say how much that is due to coaching versus just pure luck.

Unfortunately, Wheelo only records data on points by source, not scoring shots by source.

Well last week it was a veritable miracle (or a monument to North’s incompetence) that they only kicked 10 goals. They should have had at least 6 in the first quarter and who knows how many, 5 at least, in the first 20mins of the 3rd. The reason they didn’t wasn’t due to good defending - a combination of Larkey having a shocker, poor kicking for goal, and some luck contributed. There were repeated uncontested marks by Nth players from long shots at goal where the mark was either just over the line (score review) or didn’t result in a goal in the first qtr. Stats don’t tell the story.

Kicking goals is a by product of defensive work, work rate, and positioning. His aims should all be around that.

Sunday arvo at the DOME, what could possibly go wrong?

Another one of the factors that the club/Scott failed to consider when coming up with this ridiculous plan to bottom out.

  1. The existing senior players, clearly won’t want to stick around.
  2. The younger players don’t get the nourishment from wins and learning the proper way to play.
  3. The fans turn on the club, coach, players etc.
  4. The club loses the prime time slots for games.
  5. Crowd attendances drop
  6. Sponsors for the club drop
  7. Sponsorship opportunities for the players drop leaving less incentive to stay or come to the club.

I could go on, but I will just look forward to knowing what I’m doing Sunday afternoon for the next 3 years

Wait…you want the club to have topped up?

Not worth particularly getting into it in this thread. My view is the club strategised to bottom out while failing to consider the practicality and consequences of it.

Last I’ll say is if we are bottom 2-3 while Tasmania come in we have completely ballsed it all up with our timeline.

We might be a chance Ross will sit on a 2 goal lead all game

Want Robey to give NAS a don’t argue Dusty style

Agreed.
