I was expecting us to roll over at 3qrt time especially when the Pies kicked the first in the last but credit to the boys they showed a bit of maturity and ran away with the win but yeah the previous 3 qrts were nail biting stuff was very frustrating to watch
It was such a great game to be at. Come back from 3 quick goals at the start, lead most of the way and dominate general play but lose the lead prior to 3 qtr time, get back in front but fully aware Pies can score quickly and both sides running out of puff, but Peter Wright, Walla and DCP kick us away when it really counted to make it an enjoyable last 10 mins.
I was pretty confident at the game (after the first 15 mins) but watching the replay again last night it felt a lot closer.
Really proud of the boys, effort has been awesome most of the year.
Watching the pies fans lose their ā ā ā ā after Tippas oob goal gave me life
Correct.
Darcy 5/5
Tippa 4/4
Lav 3/0
Zach 3/0
Wright 2/2
Crisp 1/0
Cameron 1/0
Almost feels like the Pies players got charity votes so they didnāt get none at all.
In previous years we would have turned to water. Itās great to see us playing out games until the end.
Something that stood out for me on the replay was the younger generation of Essendon fans enjoying the game/winā¦not sure if our supporters have ever done it as hard as the current fans aged 10 to 25yr old.
No he didnāt. Walla kicked 4 goals on Madgen. When Quaynor went to him, it was a good battle.
I thought Quaynor was excellent for them.
Yep Qaynour was very good intercepted a lot of our fwd entries and gave the pies rebound from half back
Yep, had to check his name a couple of times. Looked like a pretty decent lockdown defender, good over head, and a couple times pushed walla off the ball very easily.
quaynor had a great strategy of staying off Tippa, who like Dean Rioli, will use his body a lot better than yours to put you out of his way so he can work his magic before the ball is even near him
instead he used the space apart to run and jump and cut off, spoil or mark the ball before it got near tippa
it worked because our fwd entries sucked, but tippaās best work is when itās chaos, and it degenerated into that the more the game went on
we all love cale and heās having a great year but part of the reason for our inefficiency in the front half is that he really struggles to make contests or hold front position if heās having to move to the ball. Most of his goals are coming from contests close to goal where he out positions his opponent. Roughead contained him well in those sorts of contest.
2mp is a bit more mobile but still not the really mobile strong aerial threat we need in the long run. Jones has the mobility but not the strength at this stage and we donāt seem to have the confidence to go long to him. string likes to call for long deep balls too
waterman is really the only guy that seems to favour leading at the ball carrier .
Despite that inefficiency in the front half weāre the 6th highest scoring team in the league
Despite being the 10th most efficient and 11th for inside 50s. Go figure
Thatās all very weird
Yeah itās totally broken my brain
Weāve played 15,16,17 out of our 6 games, so although we are inefficient weāve had plenty of opportunities.
Surprisingly weāre the 3rd best for goal accuracy so thatās a big factor
