There's a visitors pack (including a myki) which you can grab at the airport.
But if you're only planning to catch trams, don't bother with the ticket. They're free.
Really! I do remember hearing something along the lines that a few of the inner zones were going to be free, but didn't realise it had happened - sweet!! Thanks for that

Its only for cbd, ie covered by the free loop (red-brown trams) anything outside that loop you're required to touch on, afaik.
Srs question...
All those Thai massage places I see popping up in the suburbs, are they legit businesses, or are they 'pay a little bit extra' ones...?
yeah, I've got a friend who really wants to know too...

There's one in Camberwell opposite the Rivoli which as far as I know is legit and pretty good.
If there's a secret password then I don't know it and don't wish to.

I was actually joking.
I know you have to pay for trams. I just consider them a free service.

Oh OK, yeah we need it for St Kilda, Chapel St, Moonee Ponds - I found a Myki card in my bag the other day from our last visit, so I can just top that up and get the partner a new one - I've figured out where I can do that, so all will be good :) Cheers!

Jump on them during any peak (8.30am-9am, 12pm-2pm, 4pm-6pm) and there is never ever ever an inspector physically on the tram. They simply don't have room to move during those hours so they don't get on.
You may of course see them waiting for you at a stop, but if you do, its pretty simple to keep going and get off at the next stop.
Have worked in the CBD for 8 years and have always travelled sans ticket and have never ever been fined.
I got checked by a plain clothes inspector once. Some random dude comes up to me and discreetly says to me "Can I see your ticket please?". I'm like "What's it to you?" and then he flashed his 'badge'.
I had a ticket but it was a little off-putting; especially when he didn't identify himself first.

Have heard varying reports. One swears the ending was a happy one.

It's not free until January 1 next year, is my understanding

Yep, that's what I read the other day as well - all good, have the Myki card all sussed out now - thanks :)
You know when you have a bowl of cornflakes (or porridge), and at completion of said bowl you do not wash it immediately, or remember to soak it in soapy warm water, why is it that the remnants stick to the bowl more effectively than the strongest super glue invented by man ?
Like seriously, someone should tell NASA about this.

Dupont invented teflon for NASA didn't they??
I wonder if cornflake remnants would stick to teflon.

It's the starch. Grains (such as wheat, corn, oats) are full of starch which is a long chain polymer, same as glue is. This makes it able to stick really well to surfaces and set like concrete as it dries.

And NASA distributed it to all senior managers around the world.
