Australia is the largest producer of Bauxite and Weipa is our largest bauxite mine
Australia does produce some foil and packages. Aluminium packaging is making a comeback as more environmentally friendly than plastic packaging ( but can’t be used in a microwave).
Bauxite gets its name from Baux in France.

I worked up there at a new mine site just out of Weipa in 1974 .was only there 8 weeks felt like 8 years.
We sold equipment to Rio Tinto there and they demanded on-site service. Our Engineers hated going there as travel was such a pain. I worked out that it was cheaper for Rio Tinto to buy a second unit and ship one back to us each year for maintenance. Rio Tinto insisted still on a service visit, until our Engineer refused to go.
Was it that bad ?

Luckily, both my grandmothers were smarter than that.
We used to put some in a bowl with hot water, and put a towel over our heads while breathing in the vapo-steam
