With all due respect to you, R&B_Partisan, but the only opinion that matters on such matters is @benzina’s.
True that. Best wait for his guidance on how to react. Especially regarding the position of the sash. Does it cover the heart? How does it sit on the shoulder?
All to be revealed soon!!
Completely different red we are getting further and further away from traditional colours. One day it will have been changed that much over time (good analogy boiling the water to cook a frog slowly)
the jumper will be nothing remotely like the original and no one will notice until it is too late.
I would suggest there is some evidence that people have noticed.
It’s already too late though.
Sash is farked at the back.
Yeah, don’t really care.
It’s a black jumper with a red sash.
It’s not the same as previous years.
Next years won’t be either.
That looks shithouse. WTF have they done to the sash?
You bunch of sooks, they haven’t even released the jumper! That’s just a photo from this year’s jumper…

Not sure what the story is, and tbh, don’t really care, … but fwiw, that tweet doesn’t even exist.
You guys are aware that the colour or the orientation of the sash has zero impact on how we perform?
Are you aware that any commentary here has zero impact on how we perform?
If so, are you going to ban yourself from posting?
How we perform is determined by many things. One of the most powerful enduring motivations for performance for a club is its history and culture. Otherwise, why bother to sing the club song after a game or cherish the premiership flags that have been won, or honour the players who won them and have represented the team in years gone by?
If you are happy with trashing our history, then good for you. But some of us think that the club would be better served by showing some respect for its history. Especially rather than pisssing it away just to appease some junior designer who got the job for a foreign apparel company. Especially when they couldn’t really give a rat’s arsse for our club, let alone its history.
But it makes us we. Players come and go, coaches come and go, home grounds change, clubrooms and training facilities change.
The thing that ties us all together is the black jumper with a red sash.
I think they should terminate th sash at the armpit.
Then it would be true underarmer.
Yes, but I don’t see how the saturation of the red changes any of that
Let’s go back to the traditional blue and red rather than this modern black and red stuff.
https://www.footyjumpers.com/images/Essendon-Uniform1875.pngJust saw this, and to expand, the deals usually work as follows…
The sports brand (ISC/PUMA/Nike) approaches the club and says we’d like to make your gear, we are a good match (heritage, success, cool, proud, etc), your team will have an advantage wearing our product, your fans will buy heaps… we will pay you $x for the privilege, we will give you $y of free product and you will only source those products from us and pay us for any additional orders. Once agreed, the Sports company is the only place companies like Rebel Sport or AFL Stores or The Bombershop or anyone else can buy it, as the Sports company will have the license and therefore also need to pay a royalty to the AFL for every sale.
Now as you said there’s a certain break even point (sales volume), and clubs that have big membership numbers, a high chance of going deep in the season (or good previous volume sales) will be able to demand more upfront.
This risk of bombing out and failing to sell can be tempered somewhat by the club promoting the goods to members, signage opportunities, banners on club web pages, players made available for in-store appearances and promo photoshoots for catalogues. Just being associated with the AFL has its benefits and allows you to tell a marketing story.
true - but we have also won wearing our WTF horrendous clash jumpers
I love how people crap on about club history and tradition when what they really mean is I like how things were in my day.
Then they could get Greg Chappell to endorse it.
… and wear a feckin’ hat!
