EFC Delistings 2025 [spec]

Personally, I value goals.

But each to their own, I guess.

He legit manages to kick goals all the time, regardless of his ability in contested marking contests. Absolutely agree.

If there’s a spot we probably have too many or getting close to too many spots locked away up in, it could be his area, is all.

What do we have, Wright, May, Caddy, Edwards, Jones… Gerreyn. If they can find a way to retain, wouldn’t be against it. Gives me our Mitch Brown vibes.

Talk was Blakiston might be getting a contract I think I read, presumably if Draper goes.

I need someone to do the numbers (probably has been done just haven’t seen it) on how many more we have to cut to get to say 3-4 free for draft with Draper leaving being the 3 or 4 swing.

Scroll up, and you’ll see my intentions of who should be delisted.

Give me a hint

When was it. Scrolling for ages, yet to arrive to it

This your list? That’s all I could see.

Confusing for a delisting thread if so considering few under contract.

Gresham

Parish

Guelfi

Redman

Shiel

Laverde

Menzie

Jones

Setterfield

Davey

Smartt

Hobbs

He has done a lot more than May on the ground.

difference is one is signed already.

One massive difference between McMahon and May, aside from McMahon kicking 5 more goals in same amount of games, is 19 to 1 tackles in May’s favour. He provides pressure that McMahon does not. Gets more of the ball, more goal assists, more inside 50s, more marks.

Goal kicking McMahon has him covered and is way more accurate too. Very neat kick. They can both exist on the list, and if we do delist McMahon he will absolutely walk onto another team and be a good pickup.

I’m purely talking about list spots and we have heaps of tall/key type forwards under contract already.

I have zero issues if we retain him. I just don’t know how. Happily cull the Hobbs and all the not great small forward types to make way if that is enough

A “mutual parting of the ways” after Rd 10. Not sure that reads as anything other than “sacked”?

We simply delist Jones.

Pay him out. It’s a was a mistake to re-sign him, but we need to do what’s best for the club.

The other thing to note, Laverde is gone. Goldstein also gone. And Draper likely gone. That’s 4 talls potentially out the door.

Blackiston plays as a ruckman or Key defender (which ever we need).

Wright steps up to play more ruck.

McMahon has played key defence.

And Gerreyn has also looked promising as a Key defender.

The fact is we ain’t playing for finals, we’re in a rebuild period. We don’t need the list be perfect.

Not sure of the $$ jones is on, but I’d launch Gresham first if cutting and paying out dudes.

True re McMahon as a defender backup too. Did spend the year in Collingwood VFL as a defender.

Hayes coming off ACL you won’t know how he comes back.

Reid has a history of problems.

Ridley has a history of problems.

if anything having too many defender capable players is a necessity.

Goldy, Shiel, Lav, Draper?, Hobbs, Smartt, Davey, whoever isn’t contracted of Tsatas/Perkins

You can get up to a decent cull number pretty easy hey before trying to offload couple by trade

but thats not true , is it

He quit because they wouldn’t go down whatever path he suggested. They accepted his decision to quit.
They didn’t sack him, he sacked himself.

Might happen again though, because not sure what path he now has us on on-field.

I wouldn’t delist McMahon, but I’d lock him in a gym for 6 months

Has arms like toothpicks

He’s a goal kicker in a side that isn’t kicking many goals. Probably worth another look.

And we haven’t broken his goal kicking yet.

He may be immune to being Essington’d

We must study his blood.

And?

Chop Guelfi.

Chop Jones. Nik Cox.

Make it happen.

We have no list spots but we do have cash. Very easy problem to use one to fix the other.

That’s even before trading anyone.

If Essendon are just going to pay people to not play, I’m happy to volunteer as a delisting. Gimme that sweet, sweet pay out cash.

Cox may have that decision made for him.

Can’t see us cutting him without it being medically retired. That has pretty bad optics.

Guelfi and co, absolutely

Jeez we really have a big hole in the middle of our list.

Just for informational purposes.

Terminating a player consists of paying the rest of their current year (obviously) plus all of their remaining contract as if they played 23 games per year all under the current year’s TPP. The absolute bare minimum it would cost to pay out a senior listed player with 2 years left on their contract, if they’re on the minimum possible contract, is an additional $500k to this year’s cap, which works out to about about 3% of the cap. The mean would be around a million. No idea about the median.

Players are paid for a contract year in 12 equal amounts starting in November, plus match payments on the 15th of each month. This means we have already paid out 100% of the match payments for the year, any performance based incentive payments have been locked in, and ~85% of the base payments have already been paid. There’s some flexibility there, but not much, and you’d probably need to move around the payments of a lot of players to free up meaningful room.

If we’re paying 100% of the cap or more (which is entirely possible if we’re front loading a bunch of contracts already), it might be the case that paying out someone like Jones with 2 years to run on a modest contract isn’t actually workable. Paying out someone like Parish is almost certainly impossible, even if we planning to only spend 95% this year.

Edit: sorry, we wouldn’t have paid out the match payments for the last 3 rounds yet.
